Why My Sorority Sisters Are The Best Friends I've Ever Had

Throughout my middle school and high school years, I had an incredible group of friends. We had most of our classes together, did most of our extracurricular activities together, and spent all of our free time with each other. I felt welcome with them and free to tell them anything I needed to because I knew that I could trust them. They were my people and I thank them for those years when we were best friends.

Now, being in college, I miss those friends from time to time. But, I’ve found that my sorority sisters are the best friends I’ve ever had for so many reasons. My sisters aren’t better friends simply because they seem more genuinely interested in my life, but they are better friends because through all the crazy events and changes you go through in college, they’ll be there, going through the same things with you.

The support system given to me by my sisters is unlike anything I ever could have imagined. When any one of your sisters has a big tryout or a big game coming up, sisters will go out of their way to make sure that they feel supported. They will be encouraging, tell them that they're going to do amazing, and say that no matter what happens, they love and and respect the courage it takes to attempt what they're going to do. And if the tryout or game doesn’t work out the way they hoped, they’ll be waiting with ice cream and open arms to sit with each other until everything's better. These are the best friends you’ve always wanted.

Your sorority sisters are the girls who are there for you when the boy drama hits hard. They’ll tell you that you’re too good for him, help you feel better about yourself, and distract you from thinking about him. I’ve seen many sisters struggle with boy drama over the last year, and I don’t think my sisters could have bounced back as quick had their sisters not been there supporting them and helping them through a difficult time.

My sorority sisters are the only girls I let tease me because I know that they do it out of love and are not actually trying to hurt my feelings. They do it for the laughs and fun times together, but they know where to draw the line as to not hurt you. Your sisters know how to drive you crazy in the best way possible.

Friends are supposed to push you to be your absolute best, and that’s what sorority sisters do. Automatically by joining a sorority, you are joining a group of girls who tend to be more passionate about school, leadership, friendship, and being involved. But beyond simply joining your sorority, your friends will push you to apply for leadership positions in your chapter, encourage you to be involved on campus, and love your excitement for the little things that others may not be thrilled about.

And, to end, your sorority sisters are there to just hang out when you’re bored. They’ll be the ones to laugh with you when you’re randomly lying on the floor. They’ll be the ones to play card games with you until 3:30 in the morning. They’ll be the ones to talk about life at all hours of the day. They’re there for you when others aren’t, and that’s why my sorority sisters are the best friends I’ve ever made.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
