Lets take our posts down a few notches

Social Media Is Becoming Crazy
Rival IQ

Social media is a fantastic thing. It is a virtual way to connect with everything and anything about the world around us. although some things are fantastic to read about on social media, most things are obnoxious, annoying, and need to take things down a few notches. If you are confused by what I mean, read on.

1. Political Posts

It doesn't matter what side you are on. These types of posts are obnoxious. These posts are put on social media and shoved in the faces of our virtual friends. The best part about these obnoxious posts is that there is always a negative comment attached with the post like "How can allow our country to continue like this! We need this man/woman to be the next president!!!!!" There is always an obnoxious amount of exclamation marks with the comment. Now I know those of you reading might not be the ones who post like this, but we all know at least one friend who does this.

2. TV Show Posts

We all have that one show that we are obsessed with. Mine include Grey's Anatomy ( I watched all seasons on Netflix over Christmas Break), The Walking Dead (My mom and brother got me hooked), and of course Orange is the New Black. Although these shows are fantastic, we must remember that not all people have cable. Some of us have to wait the next day to find out who died, who was jailed, or what happened in general. Do us all a favor, wait a grace period of 24 hours before you post about what happened. Don't spoil anyone elses viewing.

3. Food Posts

I have no complaints about food videos. It is becoming a huge obsession though. There are videos out there of bakers drizzling chocolate on pastries, cameras recording their buns cooking, and even many new ways to create food that people would never have thought of. I have no complaints about the food craze. Keep it up.

4. Negative Relationship Posts

Ok. This is a huge pet peeve. If you don't want people to talk about your relationship on social media, keep it off of social media. When you post things on the internet, it is up for grabs from anyone and everyone. For example if you post something like "I wish everyone would stop judging (Insert your boy/girl friends name here). We really love each other." Keep this off of social media. If someone is judging you, talk to them face to face like an adult. Don't start social media drama.

5. Viral Video Posts

I am the first to admit that I am addicted to posting the cute viral videos that go around. But lets be honest, not all should have gone viral. That pen pineapple apple song has been stuck in my head all week. That video is so weird and confusing, it needs to go.

Other viral videos that should stop being viral are the videos of Trump and Clinton making fools of them selves. These are our potential leaders. This isn't a funny thing. This is a serious matter. They are who decides the next four years of the United States.

As a social media user I will be the first to admit that I have made poor choices in the past. I am sure we all have. But this needs to start changing. Think before you post. Be responsible and be courteous. use your heads.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
