It happens around this time every year....
Snowpocalypse. Snow week. Snow break. Whatever you want to call it! Every January or February, snow and ice rain down and force adults to stay home from work, universities and schools to close, bars, and even Starbucks to close--the last two being most important, of course!
But what do you do when you're snowed in and can't find a way out? What do you do if you think you can trek through the ice to go somewhere? Well, here's a list of a few things my friends and I have made of a "tradition", of sorts for snow week every year.
1. Get snowed in together
Make a plan to hit the grocery store for some snacks--especially bacon and chips. Take a trip to the liquor store for the essentials--wine, wine, and more wine. Grab some games like Cards Against Humanity, Utter Nonsense, or Speak Out--anything mildly funny that can turn into chaos. Get some blankets and head to your friend's house to join everyone else. Getting snowed in with your friends is probably the best plan for a snow day (or week).
2. Snow tubing
I can attest to the fact that snow tubing is one of the most fun and funniest activities I've done while being snowed in. The part that makes it even more fun: walking to the hill. Just imagine for a second..6 girls, all bundled up with every single piece of warm clothing they own, packing 5 sleds and tubes, walking down a closed main road to sled. It's a hilarious sight! Here's how to make the most of snow tubing: run to the nearest hill where more than likely, all of your fellow college buddies are hanging out; hop on your sleds and let it rip, tater chip! You're having the time of your life. Watch out for that chair nailed to a snowboard though, it makes for a bad time.
3. Create a drinking game
While you and all your friends are snowed in together sitting on the couch with your wine and chips, create a drinking game to something on TV. Example: the National Dog Show. Not kidding. What better way to spend a snowed in night when you can't go anywhere than to drink with your friends while laughing hysterically at the TV?
4. Netflix & binge
Everybody knows snow days are soooo good for binge watching anything on Netflix. Cuddle up on the couch with your friends, grab some coffee, fuzzy socks, sweats, and a blanket and go to town watching Shameless, Stranger Things, The OA--whatever you feel like you need to see every single season of!
5. FOOD
There's nothing to even say here, you know what I'm talking about.
6. Truth or Dare
Download the app from the app store and be prepared to laugh your ass off. There are many different versions to play and depending on the crowd you're with, how raunchy. Choose wisely.
7. Enjoy
Enjoy being snowed in! Whether you're by yourself, with friends, or with family, enjoy it. You basically get a free day--or week if you're in Tennessee--to do nothing but relax and have fun. Cherish the time with your friends and family, get a little closer, find out something you didn't know... But, don't call your ex, that's NOT how you have a good snow day.
