Eating healthy can be hard sometimes, but there are definitely some tricks to help you out. When most people think about eating healthy, they usually also relate it to food that does not taste good, which is far from the truth. There are small changes you can make to your diet that can help you become healthier and also taste great. Here are just a few ways.
1. Add lemons, limes, mint, etc. to your water
I used to be a huge pop drinker back when my metabolism was at its peak, but I realized that my body is not like it used to be. Pop is so unhealthy for our bodies in so many ways, and an easy way to replace it is with infused water. I make my own right at home for under $5. I like to use cucumbers, limes, lemons, mint leaves, strawberry and basil in a variety of different combinations to create infused water. This way it is not as dry as drinking just water, but you also do not get the unwanted healthy effects of drinking pop.
2. Replace chips with green pea snaps or nuts
Craving a salty snack? Put down the potato chips and pick up lightly salted nuts or green pea snaps. You get your salty fix without raising your cholesterol.
3. Popcorn alternatives
I will be the first to admit that I am the biggest popcorn fan. And I definitely used to be the biggest fan of the most buttery popcorn I could get my hands on. Luckily, my dad introduced me to stove top made without oil or butter. I, personally, think this popcorn tastes better than any other I have had, and if you do choose to add your own butter, you can pick the amount you want.
4. Vegan banana chocolate chip cookies
I will swear by these cookies until the day I die. They are so easy to make and take less than 20 minutes. All you need is oats, cinnamon, two bananas and vegan (or regular) chocolate chips. Mix those all together to create a batter and voila, vegan cookies you can eat for any meal.
5. Oatmeal
Oatmeal is the perfect alternative to unhealthy breakfast foods like waffles or pancakes. You can always add fruit like bananas or strawberries to your oatmeal to give it more flavor. There are so many different options of oatmeal, you are bound to find one you like.
6. Replace dip with hummus.
Replace chip dip or buffalo chicken dip with hummus. Also with dips, comes chips, while hummus is paired with pita bread. I know it is not the same, but save the unhealthy dips for the Super Bowl, not every Sunday.
These are just a few ways you can begin to change your diet. Giving something completely up is hard, but when you find alternatives that taste just as good, it is not as bad as it sounds.
