Getting sick at college is the worst, any college student will agree. Not that being sick is ever fun, but it is especially not fun when you already have a lot on your plate. Your "home" doesn't really feel like a home and every ten minutes you just want to break down crying because you're sick of being sick. The realities of being sick at college are as follows:

You start off by hearing about this nasty cold that is going around. First, it's Martin in your chemistry class, next it's your coworker Jasmine, soon enough your roommate comes down with it! You know you're next and start praying that it skips you just this once.

You wake up the next morning and realize that your throat is sore. You decide to brush it off and try to convince yourself that you are over-exaggerating. You are willing to do anything to ensure you aren't sick, so you start eating all the oranges you can find.

But then you wake up the next day, and it hits you.

It hits you so hard you decide not to go to class. You think, "Hey, I'll be fine! I used to skip 3 days when I was sick in high school." You stay in bed all day because that is what you would do at home, but this time mom isn't there to make you food or bring you medicine. You instead quietly suffer and just start crying because you don't know what else to do.

You finally get out of bed to go look for some cold medicine and a thermometer. You take some medicine but can't find a thermometer for the life of you, so instead, you try putting the back of your hand to your forehead to try and see if you have a fever, (since that is what mom would always do.)

You would give anything for your mom to make you some chicken noodle soup and take care of you. Everything hurts and you can't tell if you want to scream or cry. You just want it to stop!

You sleep the rest of the day and into the next. You've missed two days of class so far and decide that you should probably go today so you don't get too far behind. It is your first time leaving your living area all week. You finally get to class but you're so hopped up on cold medicine that you still aren't feeling normal.

People start noticing that you are back from being gone. A lot of them tell you that you look good for being sick and you have to assure them that your exterior is lying.

The professor starts lecture and you are so confused. You find out that during the two days you were sick, you guys covered all of chapter 14 and half of 15 so now you are super behind and have no time to catch up.

So you learned your lesson. Don't get sick at college. Ever. Just don't do it. I mean I know it isn't a choice, but it is definitely something you are going to want to stay away from. If you are lucky enough to live close to home, maybe mom can bring you some chicken noodle soup!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
