Fall means it's time for fun opportunities to do Instagram-able things such as apple picking, hiking, carving pumpkins, etc. Unfortunately, Fall also means fluctuating weather, sniffling, and lecture halls full of sneezing and coughing by students who sound like they may be dying from the plague. Due to everything you are exposed to in the fall, you're bound to get sick one way or another; and if your life is anything like mine, it will come at one of the most inconvenient time. Luckily, there are an unlimited amount of things you can do to make your sick day(s) suck just a little less!
1. HYDRATE!!
Not only should you be doing this on a regular basis but especially while you're sick. There are several reasons why you should stay hydrated when you're sick. One of the reasons being, when you have a fever, your body is working overtime to fight off that awful cold of yours, and without the proper intake of water it can lead to dehydration. When you're sick, all you want to do it crawl in bed and watch Criminal Minds all day but even drinking some chicken noodle soup or chewing on ice chips can help keep you hydrated.
2. Keep up with your medicine
I've never been one to take medicine unless I absolutely can't take it anymore. When I was sick just a few weeks ago, I had to give in and take some medicine. Normally when I'm sick, it lasts for about a week. But because I actually took medicine, my cold lasted only a day and a half because of the medicine I took. So if you ever need a quick fix, 10/10 recommend Tylenol: Cold Max.
3. VapoRub-it all over
When I typically get to the point in my cold when you just can't breathe without making my lips as dry as the Saharah Desert, I make sure to bury myself in VapoRub. Even if it only lasts for about 10 minutes, those 10 minutes are the most magical moments of my sick day(s).
4. Pinterest-it
I dont know about you, but Pinterest is my go-to for just about everything (besides my mom, of course). There are so many different posts about homemade remedies by wonderful moms all over that it almost feels like your mom actually lives in college with you. Because lets be honest, the worst part about being sick isn't actually being sick; it's not having your mom there.
5. Relax
Unless you're a workaholic like me, this part is the easiest to accomplish. Just turn off your brain, turn on Netflix, and forget about your responsibilities. Aside from hydrating, this is probably the most important thing to do when you're sick. Pretty much the same reasoning, when your have a fever, your body is working twice as hard, and adding cleaning or constantly moving around, you are more likely to get dehydrated a lot quicker and that in itself can lead to a lot of problems.
Fall may be the cutest time for adventures with the people you love but it's also the sickest time of year for most. The main thing to rememeber is to relax and hydrate. So do yourself and your grades a favor, follow at least two rules and you'll feel better in no time!
