The first semester is almost coming to close, and for some seniors, graduation is the only thing on their minds. Besides leaving Tuscaloosa with a diploma, seven Public Relation students will have more than a degree knowing they made an even bigger impact for the Tuscaloosa Community.

On October 18th, Loosa Brews was decorated for the event and had $600 in prizes for those who attended the fundraiser. Besides gifts provided by Tuscaloosa's finest businesses such as Blo Go and Frutta Bowls, two live bands entertained and local food and brews to feed all those who attended. The fundraiser's purpose was to raise awareness for Pails & Ales and all proceeds would go towards fighting children food insecurity.

What made you think of the event?

We wanted to create an event that allowed our fellow students to learn more about Secret Meals and have the chance to do something for the local Tuscaloosa community. With that being said, the lunch pail prizes offered possible rewards for those who were able to attend as well. It was sort of an incentive. - Tatum Nix

What did it take to bring this event to life?

We started from scratch: the logo, the colors, everything of that nature. Then we were able to start thinking more about the event itself. We wanted it to be a fun environment so bands and a food truck were a must! It was amazing to see everyone come together for such a good cause. - Tatum Nix

Within three hours of this event held by UA students, over $1600 for Secret Meals was raised to help the children of Tuscaloosa. The Public Relation's Instructor, Susan Daria said her students "continue to amaze" her. Every year, Daria's classroom picks an organization to help give back to the Tuscaloosa community, and this year these Seven students really have impacted the TTOWN community they called home for four years. using the skills these students acquired as public relation majors they are today truly made this event possible.

Of the seven students, Molly Stalter said, "This event opened my eyes to how many children in our community are going home on the weekends hungry. "I Loved being apart of something bigger than myself."

About Secret Meals

Created by the Alabama Credit Union, Secret meals has been proving meals to children since 2008. 22 percent of Alabama's population live in poverty enabling them to have meals or just know where their next meal will be coming from. Currently, 2,312 students in Alabama are receiving these food packs within Alabama and Florida. each pack, which costs $140 a year ensures a meal for a student for a whole year. The best part of this organization is that all process raised goes 100% towards the cause ensuring that events, such as the Local brews went in full effect to students across the state.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
