After a roller coaster start to the college football season, its time to take a step back and see where teams rank inside each of their respected conferences. Are the teams everyone thought would be on top in the SEC still on top, or has a team had a rocket launcher strapped to their team's back and propelled them to the top spot? Well, we are about to find out in SEC Power Rankings for week four.
#1 Ole Miss.
After a win over perineal SEC West powerhouse Alabama two weeks ago, there is no denying that The Rebels have a great team. However, to add upon that statement, a defense with the nickname land sharks speaks for itself, and Chad Kelly at quarterback has done an excellent job running the offense that has put 70 points on the board twice this season.
#2 Georgia.
Could this be the year that the Bulldogs create a drive for an sec championship and possible playoff birth? Led by All SEC running back, Nick Chubb, the offense is clicking. First year starter, Greyson Lambert at quarterback, is finally getting his wings under him. Georgia is the team to beat from the East!
#3 LSU.
With a running back like Leonard Fornette in the back field how can the Bayou Bengals not be number one. They've played relatively tough competition and have taken down all competitors. however with quarterback play that can barely throw 100 per game, and a defense that has given up there share of points. LSU, however, will be a tough team to beat nonetheless.
#4 Texas A&M.
Saturday, The Aggies were in a dog fight against Arkansas. They took every thing that Arkansas brought and eventually won in overtime. Everybody know they can score on offense, but possibly the best hire this off-season was A&M picking a former Tennessee and LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis. He has found a way to get one of the worst defense over the past few years in the SEC, to become one of the better ones in the nation. There opener against Arizona St. proved that.
#5 Alabama.
Two weeks ago, The Crimson Tide took one at home against Ole Miss. Then, a week later struggled early against Louisiana Monroe. However, a team with a defense like Alabama's is always in a ball game. They will have their offense ready to go once the strenuous SEC schedule is in full swing.
#6 Mississippi State.
A ground breaking year for Hail state last year, it was there first time ever being ranked number 1 in the polls. Their fearless leader, Dak Presscott, is back for the play calling duties on offense, and a defense that has only gotten better as the year has gone on. Their only slip up was against previously mentioned LSU.
#7 Florida.
After a heart-pounding win to extend their winning streak to 11, the Gators outlasted Tennessee in The Swamp. Could the resurgence of the Gators be quicker than people had first presumed? Will Grier has exceeded expectations early on at quarterback for Florida, and the defense looks to be able to compete for an SEC division title.
#8 Kentucky.
The Wildcats are the real deal ladies and gentlemen. Coach Stoops has turned this basketball school into a likely threat to knock somebody out of an SEC Championship berth. They look to be only a year or two away from being big dogs in the SEC East.
#9 Tennessee.
Tennessee needs to get their act together. If games were only three quarters, the Volunteers would be undefeated. Better adjustments on the fly and more aggressive play calling are definitely things Tennessee can improve on. Tennessee however is playing one of the youngest if not the youngest team in the SEC which gives hope to the Volunteer faithful. But, Vol fans, that last game will hurt for another 365 days.
#10 Auburn.
A quarterback swap will not help the Tigers at all. They lost to the aforementioned Mississippi St. Bulldogs in a sloppy game offensively. However one bright spot is the improving tiger defense, that was able to keep the score close for most of the game.
#11 Missouri.
Will the real Tigers of Mizzou please stand up? Are they a strong defensive team like the showed in the first game of the season and against Connecticut? Can they be a team that scores a lot of points and win in shootouts? Too many question marks right now for Missouri.
Bret Bielema, when will you learn to shut your mouth? After Texas Tech beat you last week, and a shocking loss to Toledo of all teams, I think you might have learned. Another loss this week takes them to 1-3. This team is way to talented to have a losing record. Look for them to right the ship in the coming weeks.
#13 South Carolina.
The gamecocks of the Palmetto State changed their quarterback and possibly changed their fortunes. A win over UCF though won't bring home the bacon, and SEC play will be extremely tough after already losing in-conference to Kentucky and Georgia. Could the ol' ball coach be coaching his final season? With a defense that looks atrocious at some points during the game, and an offense that isn't getting the job done. We might see Coach Spurrier be coach his last ball game soon.
#14 Vanderbilt.
Derek Mason has definitely changed the tide for a team that last year changed quarterbacks more than I changed my socks. Their defense is playing better and better each week and even pushed Ole Miss to the edge this week. The bad news is there are still the whipping child of the sec, and James Franklin's voodoo magic has left the Commodores.
So, for those of you playing the home game, as of week four, I have Ole Miss and Georgia playing at the Georgia Dome for the SEC Championship game. Things can change, however, in a matter of moments just like every Saturday. We could be Talking about Kentucky and A&M playing for the championship by the end of the year.
