Rutgers University has some of the greatest sorority women in the country. Panhellenic unity is one of my favorite things about attending such a large university. With so many great women in all of our chapters, it’s not hard to compare them to the role models we grew up with. In my opinion, if Rutgers sororities were Disney princesses, here’s who they’d be...
Gamma Phi Beta
GphiB would absolutely, undoubtedly be Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. The warmth and kindness that we relate with Aurora can be found tenfold with the sister of Gamma Phi Beta. ΓΦΒ was established on Rutgers’ campus in 1977. They’re one of our older chapters, so it is befitting that their representative princess is one of the most timeless, classic and well-liked characters in Disney’s history.
Delta Gamma
Delta Gamma is nationally known for being the most nautically-symbolized sorority. Their symbol is the anchor, so it was obviously no question that Ariel embodies all that is a Delta Gamma. She’s fun-loving, free, and ambitious. For anyone who knows the sisters of Delta Gamma, they know that if Ariel made another deal with Ursula and walked out of the ocean, she’d rush DG in a heartbeat.
Zeta Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha is filled with women who know what it means to be sisters. They love, laugh with, and care about each other so much. Cinderella is one of the sweetest Disney princesses ever created, so it only makes sense that the prince of the entire kingdom would scour the earth to find her. ZTA has the open motto “Seek the Noblest” but it is plain to see why, that with the characteristics of ZTA, the noblest sought Cinderella.
Phi Mu
Rutgers was excited to welcome our newest sorority to campus last year! They participated in their first formal recruitment at Rutgers University and we were all so glad to have them! They’re the new girls on campus, so it only makes sense that Elsa, the newest Disney icon, should be their princess. Elsa is loving, fierce, and with a motto like “The Faithful Sisters,” who could be more faithful than Elsa to Anna? No one, that’s who.
Phi Sigma Sigma
Phi Sigma Sigma is the epitome of ambition. Their sisters work hard to accomplish incredible goals. The involvement Phi Sig has in Dance Marathon each year is astounding. These ladies know what it means to achieve your own goals, independently and via their sisterhood. Merida is the most driven, kind, and caring Disney princess of them all. Plus, with a motto like “Aim High”, it’s obvious to see how Merida would perfectly embody a Phi Sigma Sigma sister.
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Delta Tau is made up of women who are intelligent, sweet, and gentle. They love a lot and they value the sisterhood they have built. Belle is the perfect representation of a Sigma Delta Tau sister because she is accepting, understanding and loving, just like all of the SDT ladies at RU. Her iconic gold dress and the wilting rose in the movie only further her candidacy for SDT’s princess because the chapter recognizes the golden tea rose as their official flower.
Sigma Kappa
I might be a little biased on this one, well because it's my chapter and I love them and because Snow White is my favorite Disney princess, but there truly is no better character to represent Rutgers Sigma Kappa. My sisters are funny, intelligent, kind and, if I do say so myself, all around awesome people. Snow White manages to be kind and gentle, even too pure of heart for the Huntsman to kill, all while running a messy, noisy, household of eight. She loves all animals, especially birds, so it only makes sense that she would "love the dove" as much as any SK girl.
