When rumors first started regarding the Gilmore Girls revival, I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, most of the actors and actresses that were on the show now have other projects and shows that are occupied with. However, when Lauren Graham confirmed the rumors, I nearly screamed.
It has been nearly nine years since we have been in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, with the gang. For me, Gilmore Girls was the show I grew up on. The quick whit of Lorelai and Rory directly influenced my own relationship with my mom and is now a fairly good comparison for our relationship. From Rory falling in love with Dean to getting arrested for stealing a yacht with Logan, I learned from the mistakes of the youngest Gilmore and have thus far avoided mandatory community service hours.
While things have been picking up in these past few weeks in casting, we still have some time before the actual revival hits Netflix. Though I have high hopes for this reboot, there are some things we need to talk about even though we may not want to.
First, the elephant in the room (number one?), Richard Gilmore. Through the series, Richard, played by the great Edward Herrmann, was the leading patriarch in a very female-driven series. As Lorelai's dad and Rory's grandfather, he was someone even we as fans felt like we could go to. Whether he was judging Rory for dating Dean or inviting over a priest to discuss her virtue, he was always a solid character and loved by everyone... which makes this supposed happy occasion sad. In late 2014, the Emmy-nominated actor passed away. Without Richard, the show will suffer some serious feels that I am sure we are going to get a taste of.
Second, who the heck does Rory end up with?! At first, Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger) was the only beau cast, making fans everywhere either happy or angry, however, Jared Padalecki and Milo Ventimiglia (Dean and Jess, respectively) have been casted. As of the end of Season7, Rory broke up with Logan after he proposed to her (quite possibly the worst possible response to a "Will you marry me?" ever). With the casting of the trinity of loves, it will be interesting to see who will be "THE ONE".
Third, please tell me Lorelai ended up with Dean! While Scott Patterson has been confirmed as still being a resident of Stars Hollow, the casting of David Sutcliffe (Christopher, Rory's dad and, yes, the one Lorelai always runs back to) has fans wondering what will happen. Personally, I'm hoping her and Dean live happily ever after, but, like most things in the lives of the Gilmore women, nothing is that easy.
I can theorize all day about what will happen in the four upcoming 90-minute episodes, but until the actual show hits the web, there is not much we can do. I cannot wait to see what kind of career Paris ended up pursuing, how Lane's baby grew up, what major news source Rory is writing for, whether Sookie will be there(!!!) and everything in between. Until then, I anticipate many conversations about it with my aunt and mom.
