While everyone else has been sitting around lamenting the end of the 2015-2016 NFL season waiting for the beginning of the new one. I have had a great summer of Cinderella Stories—or Viking Stories—friendlies, medals, and heartbreak. I never had to worry about waiting for football because it never stopped! I’m talking about real football, or to everyone else soccer.
From Copas, Euros, Olympics, and Friendlies soccer has never stopped I have enjoyed the Cinderella run of the Icelandic National Team, the devastating heartbreak of a a World Class star, and a devastating exit of the United States Women's National Team in the 2016 Olympic Games.
Although the world has been able to enjoy the joy and heartbreak of the summer game this week marked the return of the greatest league in the world to the World Stage, the English Premier League!
In a 2015-16 league that was riddled with misery for some and glory for others I cannot wait for the season to officially kick off. With the previous reigning champions Chelsea finishing in tenth place and the current reigning champions completing the greatest Cinderella story of all time. This season could possibly surpass that of last years. Every team now has that feeling that anything is possible and they too can win the league.
In fact the first game of the season Hull City, who finished fourth in the English Championship last year, were promoted and faced Leicester City the current champions of the Premier League. In a game which should have easily been dominated by Leicester City they were eventually handed a loss by the recently promoted Hull City side.
Although there are many teams, twenty to be exact, but there is only one team I'm worried about and one time I've only ever worried about since I was a kid…Chelsea Football Club!
Oh Chelsea where to start, you blew my mind wining the Champions League in 2012 and winning the Premier League in 2005, 2010, and most recently in 2015. But in the 2015-2016 season I cried, was angry, frustrated and beyond ready to fly to London and sack their Manager Jose Mourinho. Luckily the Chelsea administration decided to do it themselves. They had one of the worst seasons of any reigning.
But this year, this year will be great! Chelsea will be back in form and return to winning form. With the likes of a Hazard, Willian, Costa, Matic and many more this season will be a glorious one. Let us not forget the new manager Antonio Conte.
Oh Antonio has given me such hope. I was very skeptical of him but then I saw it he took control of an Italian side that was never supposed to leave the group stage. They beat the likes of Belgium and Sweden and only lost to a Republic of Ireland side because Conte put in a side that was rather weak to rest his main men. He went in defied critics and won the group. Not only did his side win the group stage but took them to the Quarter-Finals only losing to Germany in a heart stopping penalty shootout.
What Antonio Conte did for a supposedly weak and lackluster Italian side makes me hope and long to see what he can do for a strong, spirited, star-studded Blues side. I this year will be not one of rebuilding but one of triumph and one which will help Chelsea to rise to their former glory!
Chelsea’s first game is Monday August 15. I might be going through rush but I will not miss this game! Go Blues!
