Why We Shouldn't Down Those Who Make Them

10
New Years Resolutions

Every year I take some time on New Year's Day to write a list of my goals and resolutions for the year to come. I sit at the kitchen table and daydream about all of my future goals and aspirations. Each time I genuinely feel like I will accomplish these goals. Then within a few days, my goals just slip away. I feel like most people can relate to this. It isn't that you don't want to accomplish your goals life simply just gets in the way.

Due to this too-common theme of people not sticking to their resolutions, the pessimistic opinions come out from others who also have had trouble sticking to their resolutions. We constantly hear "If you want to change do it now, why wait for a holiday?" or "You won't do it anyways so why even have a New Year's Resolution?" I have to disagree with this negative rhetoric. I think it's wrong and only continues to discourage people.

Okay, sometimes we slip. We create a goal and we don't meet it. That is where the negativity comes in. I think that we are all missing the point. Being able to understand yourself enough to create a goal for yourself is an accomplishment in itself. Rome wasn't built in a day and your goals won't be either. For anyone to ever reach their goals, they must have a progress-over-perfection outlook. Society puts this unrealistic expectation on all of us demanding we meet our goals as soon as we create them. Unfortunately, that is nearly impossible for most of us. We should build each other up and encourage the fact that we have goals that we one day would like to achieve. If we continue to encourage others and ourselves to keep putting forth an effort to achieving our goals we will all get that much closer. Our goals may not be achieved this week or this month but with a positive attitude they one day will be achieved.

So this New Years, if a friend tells you a goal of theirs for the new year; support them. Tell them you are proud of them for creating a goal and having ambition to achieve it. Also, support yourself. If you have a goal/goals for yourself that's amazing. If not, that's okay too. Just know that as long as you continue to believe in yourself and spread positivity, you will be able to conquer anything you set your mind to. Happy New Year, xo!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
