35 Reminders to Keep You Going When You're Feeling Lost

At some point in your life, you are going to feel lost. It happens to the best of us. During these times, thoughts can be dark, and you can become your own worst enemy. Sooner or later, you’ll realize that beating yourself up is counterproductive, and only you can change the way things in your life are going.

You can’t control how your life turns out or how other people will treat you, but you can control who you are and the type of mindset you wish to have. There will be seasons of darkness - that is certain. But instead of shutting down during these times, embrace them. Learn from them. Grow from them. Come out of them a stronger person than before.

Remember these things when you feel like everything is wrong, and realize that it’s your mind that has the power to heal and transform your life.

1. Some friendships aren’t meant to last forever. Sometimes people come along to make you realize the kind of friend you do deserve. You shouldn’t have to force someone to be present in your life.

2. Being yourself is the best thing you can do. Not just for yourself, but for everyone around you.

3. The longer you try to be someone you’re not, the more lost and confused you will get.

4. There will be a time when people won’t understand your journey. That’s okay. It’s not their journey. It’s your life. It’s your journey, and no one else’s.

5. Comparison is the key to leading your mind into a bottomless black hole. The world shouts enough evil at you. Don’t contribute to this by whispering evil things to yourself.

6. Don’t settle for anything … for a job where the boss treats you as an inferior, for a boy who can’t take the time to actually figure you out - or even remember your last name.

7. Being too comfortable in life means you’re not taking enough risks. Get up and go skydiving, or something.

8. If you’re passionate about something, you don’t necessarily have to go to school for it. If you love it enough, you’ll find a way for it to be a part of your life.

9. Once you accept yourself and once you decide to not be ashamed of the person you were created to be, anything is possible.

10. Treat others the way you wish to be treated. Do nice things for people not expecting for something in return, but because it’s who you are.

11. Instead of wasting time lingering over what you could have, should have, and would have done, wake up each morning and smile at the day that waits to be taken advantage of.

12. If it is meant to be, it will be. Do not rush it. Nothing good happens in a day.

13. You could go your entire life without meeting someone who fully understands you. It doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that you understand you.

14. Learning about yourself and how your mind works is one of the most important things you can do.

16. Sometimes you’ll let your thoughts get the best of you. Sometimes that’s okay.

17. Love yourself the way you loved yourself at 8, before the world had a chance to poison your mind with ugliness.

18. No one can teach you how precious life is. How fast it goes by. Only you can realize it when you get that sense you missed something, the feeling that you rushed through the moments when you should’ve been fully aware of every single detail.

19. People change. Feelings change. It doesn’t mean that the love once shared was never there. All it means is that sometimes as people grow up, they grow apart.

20. Speaking of growing up – sometimes it’s going to suck. The key is to be present and not try to rush through life. The only thing you’re rushing to is your grave. (see #17)

20. When you feel pain, don’t shut it down. Use it to your advantage. Use it to make you stronger. Sometimes it’s our darkest moments that build us up to our full potential.

21. Before you start looking for love, you must first learn to love yourself.

22. Things will get better, but they will never be perfect. Learn to embrace all the small moments of happiness. When they fade away, remember they will come again.

23. All you can do is love who you love while you have them. Let them go when you must.

24. Terminate toxic relationships. You don’t need anybody dragging you down. You don’t need any darkness in your life.

25. One day you’re going to fall in love and realize why it never worked out before. You’re going to travel and stand on the side of a cliff and not wonder what would happen if you jumped. You’re going to drive at night and feel free instead of hoping to crash. You’ll be all right.

26. Forget what other people say about how you should live your life. Their opinions will never matter.

27. Learn to say no when it is necessary. Spreading yourself thin will help no one.

28. You may not see it today or tomorrow, but you will look back in a few years and be absolutely perplexed and awed by how every little thing added up and ended up taking you somewhere wonderful. You’ll be grateful that some things didn’t work out the way you once wanted.

29. Sometimes your heart needs more time to accept what your mind already knows.

30. Its okay to cry. Its okay to feel like your whole world is falling apart. It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you live, and that’s one of the hardest things to be.

31. You will never be as young as you are in this moment. Let that sink in.

32. Imagine the life you would live if failure weren’t an option. Take baby steps to make that life happen every single day.

33. Be your own best friend. Take yourself out to eat. Fall in love with your mind. Fall in love with yourself.

34. Be smart about who and what you pour your love into. Eventually you’ll get tired of spilling it all over the place.

35. And just remember: No matter how lost you feel, or how far you’ve traveled in the wrong direction, you can always turn around.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
