Remember the good ole days? Wait what are the good ole days? Everybody at some point in their life has an idea of their favorite hangout spot, their favorite activities and their favorite playlists. At some point in time, everybody can think of the time that paints a picture of the good ole days. Whether it was in their lifetime or a period in their parents or grandparents’ lifetime, that time is categorized as a "good ole day." If I could think of a time to label as a good ole day, then it would have to be something simple. What do I mean simple? I mean simple as in high school simple.
Now for those of your that are still in high school and reading this, know that high school is a small portion of your life that is so simple and so short. I’m not saying it’s not hard because I had a living hell of a high school career until about my senior year. Then it was all over, I walked down the hall, prideful, feeling like the cool kid because I was finally going to be free of all the crap that went down in high school. Looking back now, we had it so easy.
Now I’m 22 and supposed to be a senior in college. College is hard, it’s stressful and it’s all kinds of craziness that high school is not. Your papers, your essays and your research articles are mere footnotes in the big world. Take everything you think is hard and double it; that’s what you can expect in college. But don’t take these words and fear going to college because it’s rewarding in many ways. You’re on your own and can do whatever you want. You find love in so many places and in so many people that are undoubtedly going through the same trials and tribulations as you.
One of my favorite shows is "One Tree Hill" (go watch it, you won’t be disappointed) and it teaches about the simplicity of life in high school and the hardships of growing up and being in college. It shows reality; the reality of your closest friends leaving you behind or you leaving them behind. How you grow apart from each other or the reunion makes you stronger. In college, life is complex, but I love my life.
God, you know in high school everything was simple and we all talked about how when we get older, we were going to do this and that. We had each other and we spent our lives with each other almost every day. Then when you go to college and the other go in the military or somewhere else far away working, we are void of that time we spent four years getting used to. Man, it’s crazy that one day when the time comes from our generation do have our 20-year reunion, some of us won’t be there to see it because they have passed on from this life. I wish it was possible to go back as a guest as see how we were back then and just see how ridiculous we all were. I want to see my best friends again. I want to be reminded of my friends from time to time. I don’t want to forget it; I want to remember.
For those starting college in two months, don’t fear life ahead because it will shape and mold you into the person you will become. Always value the simple things in life because in this life, the simple things are often the ones most cherished and make all the difference.
