So… I have an addiction, and I’m going to get you addicted too. If you have an iPhone, you are probably aware of the Notes application. It’s kind of one of those apps that nobody really uses since it is installed into your phone when you buy it. It just sits there taking up space, and maybe you come across an extraneous note that you made in 2012 every once and awhile. But I have a new way to use the Notes app that I guarantee you’ll love– and you can start right now.
Every day you hear silly quotes from your friends, professors, and even people you don’t know on the street. They’re things you want to remember, and you just kind of assume you will, but they just get up lost in your head.
Write them down.
When you hear something that you want to remember, open up your notes app and write it down in quotation marks, with who said it and when they said it. But don’t stop there-- create a list. The next time you hear something you want to remember, write it down on the same “note.” Your list will continue to expand and you’ll begin to love it.
It will become more than just quotes, you’ll put screenshots of your favorite messages, to do lists, favorite places, interesting people that you see, songs you need to listen to, books you want to read, shows you want to watch, words to look up, and whatever else you want to remember, which makes it endless.
I’ve been doing this for about two years and I’m obsessed. Sometimes when I’m bored or feeling sad, I open up my app, open my list, and scroll to a random point and read whatever is on the screen. Instantly I’m taken back to that exact moment. I’m living it again. These are the little things I know I would’ve otherwise forgotten, which makes this otherwise useless app amazing.
It sounds weird when you first hear it, but I promise you will LOVE IT. Just try it. Write it down. If you want to remember it, write it down. It really only takes a few seconds, and if you think you’ll remember it anyway, you never know. There are so many times I have seen things on my list that I would have completely forgotten had I not taken a few moments to write down the memory. Who knew I could be addicted to remembering things?
