1. Nightly thought spirling
You can be exhaustingly tired the entire day but, without fail, your mind will bring up midnight topics for discussion. Remember that embarrassing thing you did 5 years ago? Yes, you will be thinking about that at 1 a.m. And, of course, there is no better time to dive into metaphysics to examine your purpose and reason for existence than at 3 a.m.
2. Binge-watching
You know you shouldn't be on any electronics when you are trying to sleep but, at least at the time, binge-watching "The Office" seems way better than being alone with your thoughts. It's like a little reality break. You don't have to worry about whatever is going on inside your head because you're too busy worrying about Jim and Pam's relationship or Whether Andy will ever break into show biz.
3. Midnight snacking
You have the weirdest food combos when you stumble into the kitchen at 1 a.m. hoping either a full(er) stomach or just eating for comfort will help you doze off. Suddenly, Tortilla wraps and honey mustard seem like the perfect food combo. Or, if you snack without fear of judgment, you just throw a whole frozen pizza in the oven at 2 a.m. and don't give a crap that all of your roommates/family members think you've lost it.
4. Early morning breakdowns
When food and distractions cannot keep your buzzing thoughts at bay, a mental breakdown is on the horizon. It's that perfect storm of questioning anything and everything about yourself and every choice you have ever made that, without fail, will send you into a tearful and snotty decent. Nothing better than crying yourself to sleep at 4 a.m.
5. Those nights you can actually sleep peacefully
And then, when it seems like all hope is lost, you have those moments where the stars align. Your mind and body and soul and spirit are momentarily at peace and you snuggle into your covers with absolutely nothing on your mind but peaceful, sleepy bliss. And waking up in the morning after such a night where all was right in the world and you were able to sleep without waking up in the middle feels indescribable.
