The first ball park to be built in 1912 was Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox have been one of the most popularized teams throughout the nation in the last century. Ever since the ball park was built, many traditions have been created through various generations. Every spring families look forward to venturing out to see their favorite players back in action. While there are many Major League Baseball teams, the Boston Red Sox are truly like no other. They are the most beloved baseball team in American and here is why.
1. The First MLB Baseball Stadium to be built was in Boston, for the Red Sox.
The Red Sox play in the first baseball stadium to be created in America. It's truly valued by families since they get to watch the Red Sox while knowing they are sitting in a ball park that has been there for more than 100 years.
2. Some of the greatest players to ever play in the MLB came from the Red Sox.
Players such as Ted Williams, Pedro Martine and Jim Rice, who are now retired, were just three of the best players in MLB history. However, now David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia are just two of the greatest players on the Red Sox that are still in the MLB.
3. In 2004 they broke the Curse of the Bambino.
The Curse of the Bambino was the superstition of the Red Sox not winning the World Championship for 86 years. However, the Curse that began in 1918 was broken in 2004 (thankfully).
4. Every Red Sox fan knows what the Green Monster is.
The Green Monster is the large wall located in left field. Fans are able to sit and watch the game from there. It is a signature part of Fenway Park, and signature part of the Red Sox. Makes sense since their Mascot is a green monster called "Wally."
5. Many of the Red Sox Players volunteer their time at the Jimmy Fund.
Many Red Sox players take time out of their day to visit children at the Jimmy Fund. This is a cancer research center for children that have cancer. One player that visits often is Dustin Pedroia.
6. Ever Since 2004, the Red Sox have won three World Championships.
In 2004, the Red Sox broke the curse of the bambino, then again, in 2007, they won and in 2013. Thankful that the undesired curse was broken!
7. Around Fenway Park are famous landmarks that every Red Sox fan looks forward to seeing.
When fans enter the stadium behind home plate, they walk down the famous road, Yawkey Way, and when they walk down behind the outfield they walk down Lansdowne Street. Many home run balls get hit onto Lansdowne street.
8. One tradition is to sing Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline."
Starting in 2002, during the eighth inning, every Red Sox fan would sing along to the song "Sweet Caroline."
9. Fenway Park is also known for playing "Dirty Water" by the Standells
This song is all about the Charles River and Boston. It says, "Love that dirty water, Boston you're my home."
10. After certain events, children are allowed to run the bases.
After games on holidays, such as Father's Day and Mother's Day, the Red Sox allow the children to run the bases. How cool is it to be 10-years-old and run the bases on an MLB stadium?
11. The Red Sox have exciting events even when its not a holiday.
Just last week, the Red Sox had a Mookie Betts bobble head night. The first 15,000 fans got a free bobble head of the beloved right fielder.
12. The Red Sox are truly more than a team, they are a family that love and care about Boston and their fans.
After all, after the Boston Bombing in 2013, David Ortiz also known as Big Papi, said the line that is now famous, "this is our f****** city!"
