All I've heard for the past several weeks are the constant reminders to register to vote, update your voter address, and get your absentee ballot because the 2018 election is quickly approaching.
With the deadline for voter registration upon us, I'm hopeful that people have actually listened and are now registered to vote. However, just because you're registered doesn't necessarily mean you're entirely sold on the idea of voting.
After all, people are always saying: “Why even bother?"
Let me tell you, there's plenty of reasons to vote in the election this November.
1. Voting is your right
We live in a country where dedicated people worked hard to earn the right to vote for everyone. You should exercise that right.
2. Your vote matters
Despite what people say, your vote does make a difference and does matter. If you aren't voting, you're giving up your right to decide how our country is run, which also means you’re giving up your right to complain when the people you dislike are voted into office.
3. These issues affect you
Maybe you hate politics, especially in the current political climate, but you have to admit: the government completely affects your life because they decide how we respond to current political and social issues.
4. You get a cool sticker
If nothing else can convince you to vote, at least go so you can get the cool sticker that lets everyone know you care. But, always make sure you’re knowledgeable on the issues you’re voting on before you go.
