Quarantining With My Boyfriend Brought Us Closer Than Ever, And Now We're Engaged

While the world is going through some pretty tough times, it can be hard to see the bright side of anything.

I, however, was able to find the blessing in disguise that quarantine brought to my relationship.

These past few months have been very scary for me. As someone who likes having a thought-out plan, not knowing what was going to happen next for me, let alone the world, was a terrifying reality to live with as I'm sure it was (and still is) for most people.

That fear all changed when I invited my boyfriend to come stay with me for a couple of weeks.

We both have been doing long distance since we began our relationship, a love that blossomed over the course of nearly 20 years. The opportunity to spend so much time with him was amazing, especially when I wasn't even sure how much I'd see him since we both were set to take a full semester of summer courses. When both of our universities moved to online learning, we figured it would be a good chance for us to spend some extra time together.

It could not have been more perfect. Of course, we had our moments of struggle as we had never lived together before, but every day proved better than the last.

Marriage became more of a prominent subject and we both were so excited to think that we'd one day be able to do this every single day for the rest of our lives. Eventually, he had to go back to school as he was still paying rent, but the experience solidified for us both that we knew we wanted to marry one another. To my surprise, a month later when we were both visiting home to celebrate Father's Day, he planned the most romantic day for us that ended in a proposal!

I know most of the content out there right now is full of uncertainty and fear, but I hope our story can be a light in the midst of the dark times and show people that true love can persevere through any obstacles the world throws at us.

I can't wait to marry the love of my life next year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
