Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what you’re most grateful for, and this year is no exception. Despite the fact that many families across the country will be politically divided this year, we’ll all still need to make it through the holiday somehow! Here are ten things to help you survive this Thanksgiving, because you've gotta have something to be thankful for!
1. A Shirt to Remind your Family Where You Stand
2. An Empowering Look
There are two routes to go with this -- either wear no make-up at all, or check out this make-up tutorial for tips on how to look sharp and ready to fight (the patriarchy). I'd also suggest this lipstick from ColourPop, which will not only last all day, but is named after the planet that we all wish we could escape to.
3. The Wine Bottle Glass
If you’re going to be using alcohol to make it through those conversations where your family is talking about how the swamp is finally getting drained, you might as well not bother with a regular wine glass. You’re going to need the whole bottle anyway.
4. Zen Literature
Check out some light reading! This book will do its best to help you keep your cool.
5. Would You Rather App
Download some games that will steer the conversation to less serious controversy. Would you rather talk about the election at Thanksgiving dinner or debate why you would rather fight 100 duck sized horses than one horse sized duck?
6. Noise Cancelling Headphones
You might just need to check out for a while. Drown out the noise of your family by listening to some calming music or the Hamilton soundtrack.
7. The Netflix App
Since you’ve already got those headphones out, have you heard that four new Gilmore Girls episodes get released on Friday!? Now’s your chance to catch up on the Gilmore drama (much more entertaining than your own family’s drama.)
8. Movie Tickets
Going to the movie theater on Thanksgiving is a popular activity, probably because everyone just wants to sit in a dark theater for at least 90 minutes and not listen to their family bicker. There are honestly so many movies out this Thanksgiving that the family could just split up into twelve separate theaters if things really get dire.
9. Uber
The Uber app will be a lifesaver in case you finally reach your breaking point and need to make a quick get away while still staying safe – remember, you drank that whole bottle of wine earlier!
