People often say that there is not a single person that can hold you back from achieving all the goals you have set for yourself. No parent, professor, best friend or stranger can dictate your future. However, although those people shouldn't prevent you from being successful, there is one individual who will always be there to judge you. Whether you like it or not, they will be there peering over your shoulder, overanalyzing every decision, criticizing every flaw.
The person is you.
As the old saying goes, you are your own worst critic. Of course, life can be difficult. There will be plenty of days when you look in the mirror and tell yourself that today is the day to just give up. You often judge yourself, whether it be poking at the fat around your waist or staring at the exam your professor passed back, wondering how the heck you let yourself screw up so badly. You will feel pressure to be perfect, knowing you can never actually be perfect.
You will also overthink the simplest things, like the time you fell on the sidewalk while everyone watched. Long after anyone who saw you fall has forgotten you tripped in the first place, you will be replaying the moment over and over again in your mind. Are they still laughing at me? Did someone record it and already post it on Twitter? I am so embarrassed!
Despite all the negativity that stands before you, out of the seven billion people on this planet, you are the only one of them that can bring you down and hold you back.
If you think you can't do something, you won't. If you think you are not good enough, you'll never try hard enough. In order to accomplish the things you want, you must be a friend to yourself. Remind yourself that not everything comes easily, so it's okay to let some things take their time. Don't be the obstacle blocking your path. Don't hold yourself back. Pick your head up and say out loud that you can do this -- because you can.
You are the most important person in your life. Not a single soul knows you better than you know yourself. That means if you think you're good enough, you are. It's just that simple.
