Greg Joswiak, the VP of Product Marketing for Apple, says, “Some people simply love smaller phones. And the four inch phone is often their first iPhone. Some people asked and pleaded with us. So we’re calling it the iPhone SE. Our most powerful four-inch phone ever.”
This statement seems to be true. People are loving the new, smaller iPhone.
Maura Anderson, a freshman at Ohio University, is all about it. She said that she has a 6S and loves it, but still thinks that it is too big. This model of the iPhone was unveiled on March 21, along with a new iPad Pro, and new versions of Apple Watch bands.
This new model of the iPhone has similar traits of its older generation, the 5S, which was released three years ago in 2013. It has a four-inch screen, a metal body, touch ID fingerprint scanning, a flush camera (which the newer generations do not have) and it still comes in black, white, rose gold and gold. Although these external factors are more similar to the 5S, the internal characteristics are more similar to the 6S. It has double the processing power of the 5S, four times the graphic performance and overall a better battery life. In addition, it will be using Apple's A9 processor, an NFC chip to support Apple Pay and a better 12 megapixel camera.
One of the biggest marketing points of this iPhone is it's size and price. The Apple marketing team says that about 60 percent of iPhone users still haven't upgraded to a 6/6S meaning they still have the smaller generation of iPhone. Many of these people haven't upgraded due to the size of the 6/6S, Audrey York, freshman at Miami University says "I'm glad I won't have to change the size of my phone which was a huge turnoff with the 6/6S. Its inevitable that I'l need a new phone and I wouldn't choose anything other than an iPhone so its nice not to feel forced into an expensive phone." This is how many people feel especially concerning the price range.
These new iPhone SE models only cost about $145 during the pre-order, compared to the 6/6S models which are costing about $300 to 350 depending on the amount of data you purchase. Pre-orders start on March 24, 2016 in the United Kingdom. Release dates within the United States have not come out yet, but everyone eagerly awaits the pre-order.
