Our Farewell To Wayne Selden, Jr.

On March 29, 2016, The University of Kansas guard, Wayne Selden, Jr., declared for the NBA draft. There were not many of us who were prepared for this announcement, but there were many of us who were heartbroken and hoping he would stay just one more year. With that being said, there's a lot to thank him for and to show him that he will be missed.

To Wayne:

Throughout your career at The University of Kansas, you've been an upstanding guy on and off the court. Watching you grow from a new freshman to a strong junior guard was an exciting three-year ride. No one wants it to end and we know you don't either, but you are moving on to bigger and better things.

We would all like to thank you for the three years of entertainment and passion you brought to Allen Fieldhouse. You loved your teammates, coaches, and fans; we could all tell by the look in your eyes and fight on the court. You've stayed humble, even through your most outstanding games and accomplishments —and that is something many people can look up to you for.

For those of us lucky enough to be in the stands during the Kentucky game in January, we were able to watch one of your most exciting games to date. With a career high of 33 points that night, watching you take charge of that court was something that we will never forget. And let's not overlook the monster dunk against Baylor, leaving Uncle Anthony and the whole nation in awe over you. These are just a few moments that you have put smiles on your fans faces, leaving us wanting more. Watching you dunk gives these fans chills like you wouldn't believe. Scoring 1,202 total points at KU is nothing short of amazing. We hope you look back at these years and smile because we sure will.

It will be a strange feeling not having you step on the court at Late Night In The Phog next year, watching you smile and dance with your brothers! Not many were expecting you to be leaving so soon, but you are ready for the NBA.

You've done it, Wayne! You've made your family, Coach Self, your teammates, and KU fans extremely proud of you. You will always hold a special place in the hearts of Jayhawk fans across the globe. You were a huge part of the KU Men's Basketball program and your legacy here will forever live on. The Jayhawk Nation wishes you well on your next journey in life!

Once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
