I’ve had a busy summer. I’ve traveled, I’ve made new friends, and I went to camp for the last time. I wrote my articles (albeit not very consistently), I wore tutus, I cried and was on the receiving end of lots of puns. With all of this stuff going on, it’s no wonder a few things fell through the cracks.
It’s always those little things that get you. Those simple little things that build up over time as you keep pushing them further back are the ones that end you when you finally have to face them. And with school right around the corner, my time had finally come. It was time to get organized and the little things had to be fought back into their corners. Here’s a glimpse at my three hardest fought battles.
The Clothes at The End of My Bed
This one is difficult to fight because it comes in two varieties. There’s the dirty clothes and the clean clothes. Both tend to also migrate under the bed as well.
Usually it’s the clean clothes that are the problem. They sit in folded piles or in the basket until they get knocked over and wrinkled until it gets so messy that I’m stepping all over them and have to put it all away. Then right after I do that another load comes out of the wash and the process starts all over again.
However, this week the dirty clothes are the culprits. I have some tie dye shirts that need to be hand washed sitting there right now, mocking me.
Emails
This is probably the most time consuming battle of the three. I have two email accounts (one school and one personal). I’d gotten out of the habit of continuously checking them. When I saw that one of them had reached 100 emails, I cringed and was even less inclined to check them. Collectively by the end of the summer, the two accounts had around 450 unread emails. I’ve spent full days checking emails and I still have 27 left.
Unfinished Projects
Everyone starts off the summer with a thousand different goals, and by this point of summer, only a few of those have actually been realized. Some of these projects you haven’t even had a chance to start on. They’re just in your head.
This one’s really tough for me to figure out because I have to figure out what I realistically can do in the summer I have left and what I have to keep pushing to a later time. Some of these things have been on a to-do list for years and just keep getting pushed further and further.
It’s these little things that get you. Do them when they come up and they don’t seem so bad. Push them further back and you’ve got a monumental organizational struggle awaiting you at the end of the summer. Be wise with your time, my fellow warriors.
