The Thank You That My Best Friend Deserves

I'm seriously not sure what I would do without you.

To my best friend,

Thank you. For everything.

And I'm sorry for how corny this is about to get. But it's all true. Would I lie to you?

I always thought people are placed into people’s lives for a reason. Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky and what I have done to deserve a friend like you. People have come and gone out of my life, but for some reason, here we are. Your friendship is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received, thank you for that.

I could honestly write a novel about all the amazing memories we have together, and all the inside jokes and stupid stories we’ll be telling our kids someday. But I’ll save both of us the embarrassment and just say, there’s too much to even think about writing here. So here's my attempt to make this short and sweet.

Your heart is of the sweetest that I have ever known and everyone you meet feels your spirit the second they meet you. The love and compassion that you show for people is special. The patience you have for people is amazing. You’re overall an amazing human, and I am so extremely lucky to call you my best friend.

I am so grateful to be affected and influenced by you, even though it’s still debatable which of us is the bad influence. Between the hour-long FaceTime calls and endless Snapchat conversations and texts back and forth—there’s never a dull moment. You are the person I turn to for absolutely everything, big or small, and that means the absolute world to me. I'm not sure how long I could live without being able to tell someone my exact, step-by-step daily routine or complain about my classes or schedule-- but I’m happy that the job belongs to you… you’re welcome. You save me from my own insanity and “extra-ness”, and are always there to make me “check myself”. I couldn't be more grateful for you, honestly.

You show me the tough love I need—especially when I just won’t listen. You’re honest. And you tell me exactly how it is. But most importantly, you never walk away, regardless. You still stuck around, even when sometimes you just want to yell at me and tell me to shut up. So thank you for that.

And I mean you even fake laugh at my jokes. You understand my odd sense of humor, my love for sarcasm, and laugh at my terrible jokes and side comments. And if I miss it, you always help me get the punch line, with an added bit of sarcasm too. You are the best friend I always dreamed of having if we’re being honest. I can be myself around you. I can say what I feel and know you won’t walk away. Whenever I need you, I know you will always be there.

You are the definition of a beautiful human, and an even more amazing friend. I hope that every person in this world has a friend like you in their lives, because if they do, I’d consider them pretty lucky people. You're like my second family, the sister I never had. And everyone deserves a friend like you.

Thank you, luh you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
