To All Of My Coaches,
I don't know how I can repay you for all that you have done for me. I've carried the lessons I have learned from each and every one of you through all aspects of my life, and you have truly made me a better person. If you have ever doubted the impact that you had on me, please know that your efforts haven't gone unnoticed— I haven't forgotten you or the things that you taught me. I don't feel like you are shown enough appreciation for everything you have done, so writing you this letter seemed like the best way I could put my gratefulness into words.
Some of you coached me when I was just a crazy little girl who was probably a little obnoxious, and some of you dealt with me when I was older and was a moody, occasionally impossible teenager. (Yes, I know, I am still a moody and occasionally impossible teenager.) But regardless of when you came into my life, you had an impact on who I am today. You were my coach.
You put up with me when I was lazy, whiny, annoying. You taught me how to be a little less lazy, whiny, and annoying. You saw me at my worst and never gave up on me. You were proud of me when I was at my best. You showed me how to be the best athlete I could possibly be. You were my coach.
You taught me strength and how to get through the hardest times of my life (physically and emotionally.) You constantly pushed me to my limit and showed me how to step out of my comfort zone. You taught me perseverance and helped me to keep going when I wanted to give up. You taught me discipline and consequences, both good and bad. You were my coach.
You taught me to love. To love my team, to love my sport, to love myself. You taught me team work and what it means to be a friend. You gave me a second family— a home away from home. You gave me a safe place where I could be myself and get away from all of my problems. You taught me dedication and commitment. You taught me determination and how to strive to be the best. You were my coach.
You showed me how to be a better person, and for that, I will forever be grateful. You are my coach, and I wouldn't be who I am today without you.
Thanks, Coach.
Love always,
Your Eternally Thankful Athlete
