Dear, Cleveland --
As the Indians were about to embark upon an epic, potential series-ending game 6, I was puking my guts out from a horrible bout of food poisoning. And while my head was hanging over the toilet, I sat there imagining all of you celebrating without me.
The FOMO was real. And pretty crushing.
As a die-hard fan, I continued to remain optimistic despite my misery. There was NO WAY that I was going to let this stop me from going downtown to watch such an important game and miss out on possibly celebrating the first Indians championship since 1948.
But as the minutes ticked closer and closer to 8 p.m. and the sickness wouldn't let up, I started to cry.
Like so many of you, I've been waiting for an Indians World Series win for almost 20 years. The thought of not experiencing such a memorable, historic moment in Cleveland history was utterly unbearable.
Well, we all know how the game turned out [and now, how the series turned out]. The point of this story is that everything about that night was sort of wrong from the start. But we have another chance.
Tonight, our Indians get to play in GAME 7. Of the World. Freaking. Series.
IN CLEVELAND.
How amazing is [was] this opportunity when we've been championshipless for so long? It honestly doesn't get much better than this, Cleveland.
I don't know if my heart can handle another winner-takes-all game this year [and holy moly, what a game it was], but, it's happening. The Cubs are fucking GOOD. But we're just as good in our own way. And just as worthy and deserving.
How incredible would it be to be able to tell our children -- and our children's children -- that the 216 truly came out on top in 2016. [Or, ya know, back-to-back world champs -- America style?] After 52 YEARS. And we were there to bear witness.
The Monsters did it.
Stipe did it.
The Cavs did it.
And the Indians sure as hell can, too.
No matter the outcome, I'm so proud of our team, our city, and how far both have come. Have you seen how hopeful we've all been throughout this series?
Those days of Cleveland defeatism are no more.
Win or lose, there will ALWAYS be next year. [When hopefully there will be less injuries so our rotation and lineup is even STRONGER. Amiright?]
I am literally rallying right now for this game. Are you? We all need to find a way to "Rally Together" tonight around our team and as a community always.
Because that's what Believeland is all about. And as we all know, nothing is given here. EVERYTHING is earned.
I'll end this with a most fitting quote from Major League's Jake Taylor, because there's only one thing left to do ...
GO TRIBE!
