It's about to happen. You've seen all the TV shows, you've seen all the movies, you think you know what to expect out of high school, but it's nothing like TV. It's nothing like the movies. High school is hard to depict in the media because it is truly different for everyone. There is not one high school experience, everyone's four years is unique to themselves and their own experiences. That's just one thing to keep in mind.
It may seem a little scary. It may seem terrifying, actually. I remember, myself, I was so scared to walk through those doors that first day of freshman year. I was scared that I was going to get lost, that I was going to accidentally run into a senior, or that I was going to be pushed into a locker because the upperclassmen could smell the fact that I was a new kid at this school. I wish I could tell myself back then that all of that is nothing to even worry about. That every one of those worries of mine never happened. I didn't get lost, and if I did, someone would've helped me. No one was ever going to push me into a locker, and seniors and upperclassmen may be able to tell that you're a freshman, but they're not going to do anything about it. They were once a freshman, too.
It is scary. I won't lie. But you learn. High school is a place where you learn a lot more than just in your classes. You learn a lot about yourself and the people around you. You learn a lot about your interests and what you like. And getting involved brings you many people that you will be happy you met. People that may be in your life for a very, very long time. It's something to be excited about.
It's a big place. And four years seems like a long time, but I just want to say that the most important thing in high school is to be yourself. I know that is so cliche, but it's something that helps attract good things in your life. When you're being you and you're not pretending, you attract people who like you for you and not for someone you're pretending to be. By being yourself, you'll feel better, all around. It's hard, but it's possible.
I also say, don't limit yourself. Open yourself up to all possibilities. Be nice to everyone, because being a nice person is just always a good thing to do. Let your real personality shine through, and you will see how everything else falls into place. High school won't be perfect, just like life isn't perfect. But, take it step by step, and know that things get better eventually. One problem may seem like the end of your world in high school, but trust me, it isn't.
Enjoy it, as much as you can, because one day, when you're graduating, you'll look back on everything you learned and everything you went through, and you'll be a better person because of it.
