In a family of a just a mom and daughter, things are far from normal. In fact, there’s nothing normal about it, but I would bet that anyone in this situation wouldn’t change it for the world. When you live this wonderful lifestyle, you and your mom tell each other everything, like I swear my mom knows more about my own life then I do, and I could probably tell you her whole life story even though I wasn’t present for the first however may years of it.
The connection that you have with each other is awesome (and sometimes freaky. Like how did you know I got a stain on my dress you haven’t even seen it yet?). It’s like living with your best friend. Well let’s be real here, it is living with your best friend! I mean, you know it’s real when all your other friends have a nickname for her and try to invite her to every social outing. But you’re okay with that, because it’s you two against the world and there’s nothing you love more. You face life as a team, a super awesome kick-a** team.
The days are always lit AF, and the best of them come in three varieties:
- The ones lying in bed, binge watching TV and reveling in the fact both of you look like homeless old men because you haven’t gotten up out of bed, except for that one time one of you had to pick up the pizza you ordered for dinner.
- The days in which you take random spontaneous road trips (big or small) because you both want cake from that cute little bakery or you just want to go to Gettysburg for the weekend to see something new. But the best is when you vacation together, because you get to learn and experience new things with your favorite person.
- The special days where you get to appreciate each other the most. Like on graduation day when your mom is forced to sit all the way in the top of the bleachers, but you still see her “I love you sign “sticking out of the crowd. Or when you get to give her the biggest hug after she gets home from a long and tiring business trip you know she rocked.
It’s the times like these when you appreciate your relationship the most, because you realize that if your life were set up any other way, you wouldn’t have the special bond you love so much. But things aren’t always fabulous. Sometimes the game of life gets rough and you bicker but, who doesn’t do that every now again? You know to give it a few hours (possibly a few tears), and you’ll talk it out, get the best mom hugs ever, and you’ll be back to being silly goofballs like nothing ever happened, because even when you’re upset with each other, you’ll always have the other's back.
It’s the best feeling to know that your best friend, biggest supporter, and inspiration are all rolled up into one amazing individual. Being a mom is hard, but doing it alone is the most difficult job in the world, and I admire my mom for handling it with grace every single day.
