Wow! Has it been the week for lady power, or what? Of course, that's to be expected with the Olympics in full swing, but women have been making their mark strongly this week. Hats off to those who have become great role models for children who might not have believed in their ability to succeed.
Simone Manuel
Amazing, and significant. Simone Manuel was the first African-American woman to win a gold medal in the Olympics ever. This is so significant because in 1953, a pool was drained because Dorothy Dandridge dipped her toe in it. Now, black girls everywhere can dominate in the pool.
The Final Five
What isn't there to say about these five? Simone Biles, practically unbeatable on the floor and vault. Gabby Douglas with an incredible routine on the bar. Ally Raisman’s stunning routine on the floor. And Laurie Hernandez and Madison Kocian on the beam. They all are incredible individually, as well as a unit. Little gymnasts everywhere have terrific role models now, as they dream of attending the Olympics.
Katie Ledecky
I know I'm not the only one amazed watching Katie winning four gold medals this week. Her swimming, while close at times, has been incredible. She's passed elite swimmers, proving herself to be one of the best. Sheer power, and terrific sportsmanship. How could anyone NOT be inspired? Especially that last race as she patiently awaits her competitors.
Kristin Armstrong
You mean, the cyclist who is still winning gold despite having several hip surgeries. Yes, she came out of retirement, and her reasoning? Because she can. If that's not enough to encourage you to pursue your dreams because you can, well, what more do you need? Hats off to this incredible woman.
Sara Ahmed
Sara Ahmed has become the first Arab woman to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting. Absolutely strong in absolutely every way, trailblazing paths for Arab girls everywhere.
