Weather and Texas go hand and hand like peanut butter and jelly or Frostys and French Fries (No? Just me? Okay.)
Texans love to talk about the weather, and people from any other place are confused by this. I honestly cannot understand why this is, when you experience what we do, its obvious. We experience approximately two types of weather: extreme or constant.
Note: It is entirely possible to experience both extreme and constant at the same time.
Extreme here meaning:
A day of weather where the weather is either life threatening, drastic, or unexpected entirely. Also experiencing 2 or more seasons of weather in one day or week.
An example:
When I woke up this morning, it was already 80 degrees and hot as hell, and when I left work at 5pm it was 60 degrees and pouring freezing cold rain.
Constant here meaning:
A consistent and horrible prolonged exposure to one type of weather.
An example:
Its day 95 of temperatures above 100 degrees.
Like how can you not talk about either of those things?
Right now, Texas is experiencing both extreme and constant weather. As I type, I can hear rain pouring off the roof of my apartment building. It's been this way for the past hour at least. (Update: I fell asleep to rain and woke up to rain)
Yesterday, on my way to work I passed streets where people just standing in their doorways, looking at their vehicles that had been swept in to the street.
This rain is affecting the entire state. Don't believe me? Take a look.
This is in Eastland County, between Abilene and DFW. This is highway 6. It has completely washed away. Right now, it looks like it will take from six months to a year to repair.
These rainfall totals were from Monday (May 30) to Thursday (June 2). This doesn't even include all the rain DFW got last night and this morning.
This is an aerial view of the Brazos River just outside Houston.
Now seeing those, tell me that Texans are ridiculous for always talking about the weather.
Of course while this flooding is horrible and devastating, there are always those willing to look at the glass half full, or in our case, over flowing.
I mean they have a point.
Seriously if cows could learn to swim they would really save a lot of Texans livelihood.
I have nothing to say. I think this says it all.
My favorite, sorry about the quality, but I couldn't leave this one out. Oklahoma is about to become ocean front property. Who ever made this meme is my hero.
Texans have very real reasons for constantly talking about the weather. We experience crazy things that no weather person could ever predict. You can say "expect the unexpected" all day long, but that doesn't mean we will get used to the unexpected and find it to be normal.
So to all y'all non-Texans, sorry not sorry but did you see the sky just a little while ago, its sunny right now but hmmm I dunno it might rain later.
