October is filled with reasons to celebrate! It is the month of Halloween, the beginning of fall weather, and the month that pumpkin spice flavored and scented items hit the stores! However, I bet you didn't know that October is also National Dropout Prevention Month, LGBT History Month, and National Apple Month, just to name a few! Here is a list of all of the crazy, noble and enlightening causes that are celebrated during the month of October!

1) Squirrel Awareness Month

This is not to be confused with squirrel awareness day, celebrated in January. October is squirrel awareness month! Slow down when you see these furry friends crossing the street, please don't feed wild squirrels, and have fun celebrating these furry friends all month long.

2) Down Syndrome Awareness Month

October is also Down Syndrome Awareness Month! Down syndrome occurs when a person has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. This celebration recognizes the abilities and accomplishments of people with Down Syndrome. It is not about celebrating disabilities, rather a celebration of abilities of people affected by Down Syndrome.

3) Adopt A Shelter Dog Month

The ASPCA sponsors Adopt A Shelter Dog Month in October to promote the adoption of dogs in local shelters. The best way to celebrate this month is to adopt a shelter dog of course! However, if you cannot do that, volunteering at a local shelter or giving monetary donations is also a great way to get involved!

4) LGBT History Month

October is also LGBT History Month! National Coming Out Day is October 11th, but the celebration continues all month. This celebration was started in 1994 when a Missouri High School Teacher, named Rodney Wilson, believed that a month should be set aside to celebrate gay and lesbian history!

5) National Arts and Humanities Month

Founded in 1993, National Arts and Humanities Month encourages everyone to explore art around them! The best way to celebrate this month is to recognize the impact that arts and humanities have had on your life! A fun way to do this would be to visit a local art museum or art walk to support local artists in your community!

6) National Toilet Tank Repair Month

October is National Toilet Tank Repair Month! This is the month to get your toilet tank inspected and repaired if needed. A leaky toilet tank can increase your water bill by hundreds of dollars a year! October is the best time to fix a leaky toilet.

7) National Sarcastic Awareness Month

This is a month to say as many sarcastic comments as you wish! Practice sarcasm during October and encourage others to join in as well!

8) Tackling Hunger Month

October is Tackling Hunger Month. This is a time to help tackle hunger in your own community, as well as around the world! You can help by donating canned goods to your local food bank or homeless shelter, as well as donating monetary funds to organizations that help to tackle hunger globally.

9) National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month! During this month, we can all take a stand against bullying! We can be proactive by educating ourselves, as well as others, on the negative and harmful effects that bullying can cause. If everyone bans together, we can stop bullying and its harmful and hurtful ways!

10) Home Eye Safety Month

Home Eye Safety Month is celebrated in October. This is a time for everyone to develop safety skills when it comes to your eyes. Some of these may include wearing appropriate eye protection, reading and following manufactures guidelines, and replacing worn or damaged equipment. The eyes have it this month!

These are 10 great reasons for celebrating in October! Hope you have a great rest of October!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
