While all of your friends are posting cute relationship pictures, remember these few things that may be hiding behind the picture.
1. Having your own freedom
Letting yourself go and having fun is what makes all of us happy. When you're single, there's no one at the other end saying "you're not going out" or "you're only going if I'm going with you". You have the power to go out where you want, when you want, and with whoever you want!
2. Focusing on your goals
Being single means you can set your goals higher and higher without anyone trying to change your mind. If you want to go to law school, or something as simple as deciding on a particular major that may be really difficult, you don't need a relationship partner to negatively influence what you really striving for. Realizing what you want and how you are going to achieve it is far more important than having a "bae".
3. Broadening your friendships
Having a bunch of friends to hangout with all the time can really make a person feel great about themselves. You don't need your partner to get jealous if your hanging out with the guys or girls one night. Hanging out with your group of friends can be your escape from a long day at work or stressful day of school. You don't need your partner to make the decision to not see your friends.
4. Me time
Everyone needs time to themselves once in a while, some more so than others. If you want to "binge watch" Netflix for a week straight, or lock your bedroom door and blast music to tune out everyone, you don't have to worry about your partner thinking you don't want to spend time with them. You are in control of your own down time without a worry in the world.
5. Physique
Summer's coming! Maybe you want that beach bod but your partner wants to go out to eat out every other night instead. When you're single you have the ability to spend as much time focusing on your body as you want. If that includes going to the gym every night for hours on end, then you can totally do that without someone forcing you to go out to eat instead.
6. Guy/Girl Best Friends
If you're a person like me who's friends are mostly the opposite sex, then the last thing you want is a jealous partner. You don't need them questioning you as to why you're always hanging out with that person. Maybe the answer is as simple as "because we're best friends". It totally doesn't mean you're hooking up with them, and if you're partner thinks that's what you're doing then maybe they aren't the right person for you. The right person will trust your decisions, and believe what you're telling them. Just take Miley and Oliver for a perfect example.
7. Style
Appearance is everything within our society today, but everyone's style taste is different. You might love the way you look in those brand new pair of jeans, but what if your partner hates them and doesn't want you to wear them again? Being single gives you and only you the ability to accept and love the way you dress and appear to others.
8. Travel
Who says you can't go to Europe with your best friends tomorrow? Your partner if they're THAT attached to you. Taking time to venture out and explore the world beyond your comfort zone will help you grow as a human being. It will give you a different perspective on the world, and make you more grateful that you got to visit another place on your bucket list! If your single and want to hop on a plane tomorrow to a different country, no one can stop you (unless your parents step in).
9. Q&A
I believe the BEST part about being single is you don't have to answer to ANYONE. You can go and come as you please, choose to answer to what you like, and ignore the questions and answers you dislike. It's all about the choices and decisions YOU make. If you don't feel like talking to anyone one day, then you totally have the power to ignore anyone you please. Your real friends will respect the idea that maybe you just need time to yourself that day.
10. Family time
If you're someone like me, then you probably have a huge family where your siblings and cousins are your best friends. You don't want a partner who will draw you away from the ones you love most and spend the most time with. A real partner will respect that part of your life and include themselves in on your family time. If you find yourself in this struggle, you might need someone different in your life. My family always told me that one day when I come home with a boyfriend, he better be willing to spend a lot of time with all of us because that's the type of family we are!
11. Your wants
So you want that new Jeep right? Or maybe it's your dream car you've been working really hard long hours for. With the amount of money you would spend on a relationship, you could have the money to buy that brand new car! That sounds a lot better than a person who could come and go into your life as they please. The car that you worked really hard for won't leave you that quickly. (I did it, yes that's my Jeep Patriot that I worked my butt off for!).
12. No regrets
When you're single, there's absolutely NO REGRETS when it comes to holiday gifts, or birthday gifts. You won't have to think "damn, I just blew more money on someone who I want to break up with". The plus side of this, is that you could spend whatever you want on yourself and not regret any of it! I think most of us have been in these types of situations.
13. You
You are the main priority in your life. Never forget that. You need to make sure you're happy before you let anyone else make you even more happy. You need to make sure you've accepted yourself before you let anyone else try. If you're not comfortable in your own skin, what makes you think your partner will feel comfortable with you also? Remember that everything will come in time when and where it is suppose to happen. Until then, these are my top reasons why there's nothing wrong being single.
