Keep it classy, Ole Miss.

Why I'll Never Say Hotty Toddy

This past weekend, Mississippi State's hockey team traveled to Biloxi to compete in a tournament against Ole Miss, Tulane, And Middle Tennessee State University. Ten girls, myself included, traveled down to Biloxi as well to support the team as Ice Girls (which is basically like Diamond Girls for baseball, but for hockey), as well as a small number of fans. From Friday night through the rest of the weekend, I was grateful that I did not attend the University of Mississippi, or have any connection to them at all, due to this hockey team's countless actions that demonstrated a lack of class, and showed the University of Mississippi in the worst light possible.

It started on Friday night. At midnight, after a late game and dinner, our team finally arrived at the hotel. Thirty rooms had been blocked off in advance to be split between the four teams. We got there and found that Ole Miss' hockey team had taken 15 of them, sleeping one or two players to a room, while the other three teams were left to split the remaining 15 rooms among them. We were left with three rooms for about 20 of us, and some of us ended up staying at the homes of players about an hour away. The kind players on MTSU and Tulane's teams offered us some of their rooms, even though they had very few themselves. The men of the Ole Miss team offered no one anything.

The next day Mississippi State played Ole Miss at 8 p.m. Throughout the game, there were repeated acts of rudeness and disrespect. During the first quarter, one of Ole Miss' players grabbed at State player by the neck and threw him on the ice and started throwing punches. Hockey can be a violent sport at times, and fights are not uncommon. However, the team took a video of this fight, and posted it on their official twitter page with the hashtag #hottytoddy as if the fact that they were able to throw punches made them a better team.

Ultimately, Mississippi State lost the game, and the players of Ole Miss' teams were not the most gracious winners. Both teams were sponsored by the Hard Rock Café and attended dinner there. The boys of Ole Miss stood up and cheered for themselves and about their win while looking over a Mississippi State's players with looks and gestures mocking the team for their loss. We just looked at them and clapped because obviously, they needed the attention.

I am not saying the University of Mississippi is a bad place. There are some incredible people who attend this school, but the behavior of these players this weekend has given me a reason to have negative attitude towards Ole Miss. Let's hope that when their football team and fans come to Starkville in a couple weeks, they can show the University in a better light.

Hail State.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
