Never Grow Up

Growing old may be mandatory but growing up is optional.

Never Grow Up

As kids it seemed like we always couldn't wait to grow up and be independent. In grade school, we couldn't wait to decorate our lockers in middle school, and in middle school we couldn't wait to meet new people and move on to high school. Then, we reached high school and we were ready to get out on our own and go to college. Growing up is great, but I think many people are rushing the process of growing up. Just because you are older and in college or high school does not mean that you can't still act like a kid. Just because you are growing up doesn't mean you have to stop being a kid.

1. Keep watching your favorite old shows

Just because you are getting older doesn't mean that you outgrew your favorite cartoon. You are never too old to get in a good laugh watching Spongebob. Binge watch your favorite old shows. Just like with cartoons, you can never outgrow Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Lizzie McGuire.

2. Disconnect from your devices

Get outside and spend time with old friends instead of being glued to social media. Act like a kid again and be carefree and not absorbed in the internet.

3. Play some old games

Maybe play some old Wii games with a few of your friends or power up your old Nintendo DS if it still works. Your Animal Crossing town and your tamagotchi definitely needs some caring for.

4. Eat ice cream for dinner

Whip up a marvelous sundae and have no regrets.

5. Color!

Find an old coloring book or purchase one of the adult coloring books. Not only does it bring back old memories, it also relieves stress!

6. Wear whatever you want

Don't worry about what is in style or what matches with what. Pick out whatever you love and rock it like a kid would.

7. Camp in your backyard

Build a campfire and pitch a tent in your backyard like you did as a kid.

8. Play a board game

Find your favorite old game and have game night with all your friends. You're never too old to enjoy Monopoly or Candyland.

9. Dance even if you don't know how

Kids don't care what other people think about them. They just be themselves and focus on having fun. So even if you don't know the right moves, dance like no one is watching and let lose.

Life becomes much simpler when you take a look at the world from the eyes of a kid. Even though you are getting older, it doesn't mean that you have to stop acting like a kid. So when you feel like you need a break from the hustle and bustle of life, act like a kid again. Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
