Love is an inevitable emotion that everyone will feel at some point within their lifetime. It is potentially the most life-altering thing in existence, holding in itself the power to build and flourish, as well as the power to utterly destroy. It is kind of a funny thing, with so many various meanings and bipolar emotions. There are many opinions floating around about what true love really is. Is it the sexual sparks that fly between two gazes? Is it the toes that curl from the magic of a single lip-lock? Is it the laughter shared on a rainy Sunday while lying in bed and watching a flick? While these are all phenomenons that most certainly produce a happy heart, there is a more particular feeling that sums up what true love really is — a never-ending crush.
Think back to when you had your first crush, whenever that may have been. Mine was in preschool with one of my best friends; he even gave me a life-like plastic red rose with dew drops on it. Do you remember the butterflies felt at the beginning of your crush? Now think back to your first broken-off relationship. In the beginning, everything was full of smiley faces and tummies full of butterflies. However, the honeymoon stage never lasts forever. The two of you began to seriously take on life together. Arguments may have appeared and tears may have been shed. The swarms of butterflies slowly dwindled away until the horrid day of heartbreak ...
Plain and simple: breakups suck. You feel your heart getting ripped out and you swear you need to eventually run out of tears. It's an absolutely horrible feeling. But, I promise you, one day all of the heartbreak will be worth it. One unsuspecting day, you'll meet someone. They'll smile at you across the room. You'll do the typical introductory small talk; perhaps even delve into deeper articles of conversation. Smiles will be shy and eyes will be tentative, but you'll leave that encounter with a new flock of butterflies taking flight all around your insides. You'll be so nervous before your first date that you think you might actually puke, but it'll all go well. Crazy enough, you'll actually feel calm, as if you've known this person forever. Soon enough, you'll decide to go steady together. You'll have ridiculous jam sessions and watch your favorite movies and go on many adventures. You'll talk about things you've never shared with anyone else. The weeks and months will fly by, but all the while, the butterflies will still be soaring ...
The butterflies will still be soaring ... that's when you'll know that you're truly in love. You'll look at your special someone and you'll feel your heartbeat accelerate and your smile spread wide. Even after some weeks and months, you still have an insane crush! Ridiculous as it may seem, this is what true love is; a never-ending crush. This doesn't mean that you're in the honeymoon stage forever, because you're not — life seriously kicks in. This doesn't mean that the relationship won't have its ups and downs, because it certainly will. But tackling it all together will be worth it.
