It's February, my loyal readers. So much goes on during this month. The start of the winter Olympics, the season of love that is Valentine's Day (or Single Forever Day for the rest of you), and of course, basketball season from the college level all the way to the pros. This week, I can finally break down these ridiculous trades that happened during this regular season. Yes, it's not even over yet, but it's interesting to see who moved where. With so many trades, five of them stood out to me, and when I mean five, I mean Odyssey won't let me go higher than that number when it comes to lists (maybe one day). Anyways, here's my top five newsworthy NBA trades.
1. The Blake Griffin Trade.
You can finally say sayonara to the long-lost lob city as the LA Clippers shipped Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons. In exchange for him, Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a 2018 protected 1st round pick, and a 2019 2nd round pick, I think the Clippers did pretty well considering they just traded away a superstar player. They now have enough options to cover up the lost scoring in Griffin, and they'll have some tinkering to do when it comes to free agency in Summer. The Pistons, of course, gets Blake Griffin, alongside Willis Reed and Brice Johnson, two role players that'll give Stan Van Gundy something to think about when it comes to fitting them into the Detroit puzzle, actually just kidding, Willis Reed got immediately traded to the Bulls because.....
2. Jameer Nelson traded to the Detroit Pistons.
One of the most underrated trades in the entire trade deadline fiasco, Jameer Nelson is reunited with former Orlando coach, Stan Van Gundy. Jameer Nelson can definitely be a solid backup guard for the Pistons, and Willis Reed, don't worry, they can't kick you around the league like a hot potato anymore, have fun in Chicago. Another future second-round pick goes to Detroit, so look for a solid future in the Pistons.
3. Dwayne Wade traded back to the Miami Heat.
Wade County is back in full force, and I think it'll be safely assumed that Wade will be retiring where he started, whether it'll be this year or another. This is the first of the Cleveland cleansing, but no one can feel nothing but excitement for D-Wade as he is finally back in Miami where he belongs. The Cavs get a second-round pick out of this, so maybe they can find someone for Lebron to train.
4. The Three Team Trade, All Thanks To Cleveland.
All thanks to Cleveland, more teams got involved with trading players. The Cavs received Rodney Hood and George Hill, the Jazz get the underrated Jae Crowder and the holding on for dear life Derrick Rose, and the Kings get the ever aging Joe Johnson, and good old Iman Shumpert, along with a 2020 draft pick just because. Who knows what these players will do to affect their teams because this is definitely not even the most newsworthy trade.
5. The Cavs and Lakers Trade (Bye Isaiah).
My goodness, whatever is going on in Cleveland, it makes the fires in California look less intense. Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye were traded to the Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Could anyone have seen this coming? Probably not, and the Lakers were the winners in this trade because the chances of Isaiah and Channing Frye staying as a Laker are slim to none, they have opened up some salary space to sign a major superstar (cough Paul George cough). To Cleveland, I wish you good luck, because I am hoping with all your new players there will be some positive outcome in all of this.
