NBA Offseason: Cash And Trash Moves of the Summer

Cash Moves:


Warriors

Golden State could not possibly improve from last year, right? Wrong. Former MVP Kevin Durant joined the dubs to create one of the greatest starting lineups in NBA history. Big time cash move for the Warriors.




Grizzlies

Memphis is arguably the most physical team in the league. Other than a conference finals appearance a few years ago, what has kept them from strong post-season runs? Re-signing star guard Mike Conley was crucial, but Memphis still lacked shooters. Signing Chandler Parsons this summer was the biggest cash move for the franchise in years.




Celtics

A strong 2015-16 season driven by young talent pushed the Celtics into the upper echelon of the NBA Eastern Conference. The addition of star center Al Horford makes Boston capable of challenging the Cavs as the top team in the conference.




Trailblazers

Portland advanced further in the Playoffs last year than with Aldridge’s squad a year prior. The tenacious young squad led by Damian Lillard has only matured and added depth to the roster. With the addition of Evan Turner and Festus Ezeli, the Blaze is one of this year’s cash moves, as they prepare to launch a dark horse campaign for the title.





Jazz

Utah has been a few key players away from becoming a serious contender in the Western Conference. The addition of George Hill and Joe Johnson allows the Jazz to spread the floor even further and adds significant depth to the roster. Cash move for Utah that should place them in playoff contention.




Trash Moves:




Heat

Pat Riley offered Dwyane Wade a joke of a contract this summer, and after a big surprise, Wade took his talents away from South Beach. In conjunction with Bosh’s poor health, the Heat will begin a serious rebuilding phase around Hassan Whiteside.




Lakers

LA said goodbye to franchise legend Kobe Bryant last season. As a means to replace Bryant, the Lakers signed Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov to excessive contracts. If the young players on the roster continue to develop, the team may survive this drought, but it will be a long season for now.
