Most sports have running as their punishment, but not as their "main event." In lacrosse, you run across the field to get a goal, and you run across the bases as fast as possible to score in baseball. Often getting someone to run is like pulling teeth, you’d rather do anything than go for a five-mile run.
Running is one of the best sports; well, at least in my opinion. You can just let loose and have a little bit of fun. Running is also something that almost anyone can do.
1. You don’t have to be amazing; you just have to want it.
For running, you don’t have to be amazing. There. I said it. You just have to tell yourself "I will do it" and you’re already halfway there. The hardest part in running is the motivation and if you can motivate yourself to go for a run, you can motivate yourself to do almost anything. In order to feel proud of yourself, you don’t have to base it off someone else. You’re running with yourself and against yourself. It’s one of the few things where you don’t have to fantastic, but as long as you’re proud of yourself, that is all that matters.
2. Your confidence and happiness will be at an all time high.
Elle Woods might have been right about working out because endorphins really do make you happy. Runner’s High really is a thing, and you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world.
3. Almost anyone can run.
All you really need is a pair of sneakers. You don’t need all the extra equipment you’d need for other sports like hockey and lacrosse. You just need to strap on your sneakers and hit the roads.
4. You’re able to be your true self.
When you go for a run, no one is there to judge you. Everyone is out there for his or her own reason. You can be as goofy as you want and no one will judge you. If you want to jam out to NSYNC and belt out “Bye Bye Bye” as loud as you want, go ahead; no one will judge you.
5. It can be peaceful.
You can run by yourself or with a group of people. Sometimes, you just need the group around you to keep you going because running is hard. Then there are times when you just want to go on your own and work out, and you can totally do that. Everyone has the type of day they just want to be alone to work out, it happens. With running, there is nothing better than going for a run on the open road running to the beat of the song you’re playing. There’s no one to tell you what pace you should be at and you can just rock out to you’re favorite 90’s boy band.
Sometimes you just need to go for a run. It might suck a little bit at first, but little by little it gets a bit better. Just remember to just keep running; it could always be worse and you're totally capable of doing anything you set your mind to.
