My (Big) Little Brother, My Hero

Things I want to remind my little brother.

Because I have a brother, I will always have a friend. Growing up with you was a great adventure. Although our paths may change along the way, I just want you to know how much I cherish you and our friendship.

The past few years I thought to myself “you are never going to grow up." I was worried that you wouldn’t see the reality of life. I was worried that you didn’t care. I was worried that you were going to drift away and I would be forever lost without my little brother. Lately, my mind has changed. I have watched you grow into more of a man this past year than ever. There are still some things you could work on but I am confident that you will figure it out as you grow older.

You have the best personality. You know how to make people laugh. This special characteristic about you is very valuable because you can make a single person's day by just telling one of your silly jokes or cracking a goofy smile their way. You have found wonderful respect for women. I am so proud of you every time I see you and your girlfriend together. You look at her in a way that shows you care. You give her your utmost attention when she needs it. You’re there for her. You have found someone that keeps you on your toes and makes you smile the way that I always hoped you would. I am forever grateful for her. You never forget to tell me you love me before goodbye. To me, this is really special because there is a chance that could be the last time we say that. It’s always important to tell the people you love, you love them while you have the chance. The talent and sportsmanship that you show in games gives me something to look up to, literally. You have a huge heart on and off the court. It gives me a thrill watching you play a sport that you have so much passion for. I am always delighted when I am able to make it to your games. Although you’re younger than me you tower of me and I am constantly looking up to you. I have a sense of comfort when I’m back home with you because you make me feel safe and you’ll always protect me. When we were little I thought I would always have to be the one to protect you and stick up for you on the playgrounds, but I have a feeling that’s changing fast. You’re becoming more of an adult. It’s hard to watch you grow up so fast, but it’s a wonderful feeling knowing that you are my brother. I don’t know what I would have ever done without you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
