Everyone hits a point in their life when they feel as if they have no gumption to complete tasks, to continue doing daily routines, or to even get out of bed in the morning. And as it happens, I hit one of those rough spots very recently, and I had absolutely no idea of how it came upon me.
I am normally the most driven person you will ever meet, constantly working at my goals, doing extra for others, and always making sure I have a creative project in the midst. I didn’t have anyone suppressing me, bullying me, or belittling me, so why was I so lethargic? When I found myself crying on the way home from work, one day, I realized I needed to reach out. At home, I confided in Daddy, and when I told him I had no idea why I didn’t feel motivated anymore, he immediately responded with: “You’re not motivated anymore because you chose to not be motivated anymore.”
At this moment I was extremely upset because I thought he had given me a super sarcastic answer to my plea for help. There, obviously, had to be an outside factor to the cause of my lack of motivation. That night I slept on my thoughts of his response, and by the morning I realized exactly what he meant. It's a choice.
We are the only ones in our lives who can decide what we are willing to do, what we are passionate about, and how far we are willing to go to get things done. There is a switch in your head that reads: let's do this, and it can only be turned off and on at your will. You are the only one that stands in your way of accomplishing anything and everything your heart desires. There are people that try to stand in your way, but ultimately, you cannot use them as an excuse for you to give up.
For some unknown reason, my switch had been flipped off, and I had to get it back on. Randomly, my Time Hop let me know of a quote from a wonderful lady I had once shared on Facebook, and it was everything I needed to see. So I did further research and Googled her best quotes, and my girl came through for me.
“What you don't do can be a destructive force.” Eleanor Roosevelt..
Things unsaid, left undone, and dreams undone will haunt you forever. They can eat away at your very being until you are unhinged, incapable of self-fulfillment. The very things you longed to do, but never did because you had no gumption, can transform into something that will only hurt you in the long run. Even your daily tasks such as work, gym, and chores are things that you need to strive to do at full steam because what else is there for us to be except exceptional?
"You must do the thing that you think you cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt.
You need to act on the very things that keep you up at night, and the things that swim around in your dreams once you've fallen asleep. The things that seem so wildly impossible are the ones that are the most riveting, and fulfilling when completed because it gives you that power and sense of self satisfaction that everyone should crave.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt.
The successful people are not the happiest people; it is the people who live every day doing what they love even if they fail. If no one were to act on their thoughts or crazy instincts, where would our world be? What is our generation going to contribute to the world while we are roaming these lands? Will we make a beautiful place that our children and our children's children will be overwhelmed with every day because of the astounding, breathtaking things we accomplished?
Before we can move anywhere, conquer anything, or create the future we have to flip our switches on, and reading inspirational quotes and getting encouragement from loved ones isn't going to do it. The most it will do is shake your world and get that little switch vibrating with anticipation, desperately wanting you to reach in and lift up so it can get to pushing you forward with every ounce of passion you have. But you have to move it yourself -- physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You have to choose to be motivated.
