Spring break 2015. No, I did not spend it in on the beach in Mexico sipping margaritas and getting a perfectly bronzed tan. Instead, I spent a week in the comfort of my own house. As much as an indulgence as the warm weather would have been, there is something therapeutic about taking a break from school and spending it in my own home.
I have often lived by the words “college makes you appreciate home and home makes you appreciate college." It is so true. There are some little luxuries you can only find in your own house, and while school may be a blast, coming home to these small things is very rewarding.
1. Showering and bathing.
Singing and not having to worry about anyone hearing. Not wearing flip-flops. No communal showers. Oh, and the luxury of taking a bubble bath -- the opportunities are limitless.
2. Dogs (or cats, fish, rabbits, etc.).
Sleeping with your pet. Walking your pet. Pets (dogs) really are a man's (or woman's) best friend and there is nothing I miss more at school then my furry friend.
3. Hanging out with the family.
No one has seen you at your best (or worst) more than your own family. And as much as these people can get on your nerves, you know you love 'em. Coming home and watching movies, eating dinner, or just joking around with the family is time well spent.
4. Freedom to strut your stuff.
You're home, so feel free to walking around in your underwear. Stroll the house wearing zero makeup and your hair looking wild. You know what, no one cares and your family has no room to judge ya.
5. Food.
Well, this is one is kind of self explanatory. But, seriously, nothing in this world compares to Mama's home cookin'. Not to mention, a week of not ordering take-out has really saved me good money.
6. All your favorite places.
Your local gym, favorite restaurants, stores, etc. All so close. I don't know about you, but during the short times I'm home, I make it a mission to hit up all these places while I can.
7. Privacy.
After almost two years of experience living on campus in a dorm setting, privacy is rare. As much as I love being surrounded by my friends, there are also times when I just need to be alone and have some peace and quiet. The comfort of my own bedroom at home is a lovely thing, and nothing beats your own (not twin XL) bed.
8. WiFi.
Hey, this one might seem like a stretch but, seriously, I have been burdened by ethernet cords during my time at college and they are the worst. And, seriously, WTF is "JMU- OFFICIAL- EVENTS" because, no, I do not want to connect to you.
9. High school friends.
Nothing makes you feel more at home then being surrounded by your high school BFFs. It's great how nothing changes and sharing stories about your shambly college nights just seems funnier with these peeps.
10. A break from the real world.
Home. It's a place to sit back, relax, and take a break from exams for a week.
