12 Things We Miss About Home

There are some things we all think about when we think of home.

While college is undoubtedly great fun 95 percent of the time, there are still the occasional moments when we find ourselves longing for home. Here are some of the reasons we love going home so much during breaks.

1.The food is great. Nothing quite beats a home-cooked meal. Even though pizza delivered at midnight is nice sometimes, a hot meal from home takes the cake on this one.

2.You get to sleep in your own bed. Although you might try to not think about it, the reality is that you are not the first person to sleep on your dorm bed. It makes sleeping in your bed at home that much more wonderful because you know who’s been there before you: only you.

3.No shower shoes. No explanation needed on this one.

4.You get to wear comfy clothes. Although there some who already do this at college, you can do so at home and not care what people think because you are with people who know you enough to not care about what you wear.

5.You can sleep in. This one is pretty self-explanatory. No morning classes to wake up for when you’re at home.

6.It’s a chance to take a break from the books. Even though professors will assign homework over break from time to time, there is also time to recuperate before hitting the books again.

7.No more quiet hours. Some colleges have 24-hour courtesy rules that require students to keep things on the tamer side of things. Those rules definitely don’t exist at home.

8.It’s a time to be with your pets. For those of you who miss your furry friends, being home means you can cuddle with them on the couch and enjoy their company until you have to go back to school.

9.You can catch up with family. Although your friends at school are great, spending some time with family is always nice. After all, you lived for them for seventeen or eighteen years before this, so it can be nice to settle in to some of your old routines.

10.It’s a chance to hit up your old haunts. Even though college broadens your horizons in the local attractions department, there is always something nice about visiting the coffee shop or restaurant you always used to go to when you were at home.

11.No waiting for your laundry. You can say goodbye to that line for the washer and the dryer.

12.You know the lay of the land by heart. When you first go off to college, it is usually in a place you don’t know very well. You spend the first few weeks getting used to a new place that will be your “home” for the next nine months. But when you return to the place you grew up, you couldn’t be more familiar with it. It was home before you went to college, and it’s still home now.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
