I am about to hit my three week anniversary as a Clevelander.
I work at a non-profit located in Toledo, Columbus and Cleveland. We launched in the 216 area code last year and I took the expansion as an opportunity to relocate from Toledo to my favorite Ohio city, Cleveland.
Whenever I say “I love Cleveland” people look at me in shock. I get a confused look when I tell people I asked to relocate to Cleveland.
#ohioagainsttheworld is a hashtag I use regularly. The Buckeye State is my home. Most of my friends and family live here and quite honestly, the political science major in me loves that Ohio is a swing state in elections. I still relive the glory days of Obama ‘08 “Yes we can!".
I love the underdog dots on the map. I think we are in a new era where 20-somethings chose to live in smaller cities. Places like Cleveland offer the same opportunities as bigger cities.
I can check quite a few things off my list from the past three weeks as a Clevelander. I enjoyed the best cold brew coffee of my life (no exaggeration) at Luna Bakery Cafe in Cedar Fairmount. I continue to watch the Indians add wins and hold onto first place. I even attended a game and fully indulged in $1 hot dog night.
The past two weekends I unintentionally stumbled across local festivals. Thank you to the Feast of the Assumption for the best cannoli of my life. I continue to “run out of things” and stop by Whole Foods. This is the first WF less than 10 minutes away from home.
These are the same opportunities you can find in a bigger dot on the map. Cities like Cleveland need passionate 20-somethings to attend those weekend festivals with a local cold brew coffee in one hand and their phone to share on social media.
We are the ones that can show the rest of the world that cities like Cleveland really do rock!
