Why You Should Love Yourself

“It is about being fearlessly and relentlessly true to yourself”

Why You Should Love Yourself

Self love, it’s a term we hear a lot.

We constantly hear we should love ourselves, love our personalities, and love our bodies. So much of society now is filled with the idea of sticking to a mold or looking a certain way. And then the ads come out that say “forget the mold, be yourself”. But we all know it’s never that easy. It’s never that easy to look in the mirror and say “Wow, I’m amazing, I’m one of a kind, I love myself." Why? Why is that so hard? It should never be hard to love yourself.

You are too amazing to not love every cell, every hair, every line, every single part of yourself. You were put here for a purpose. And not all of us need to make it into the history books to be worth something as a person. Perhaps you were that one person your friend needed on a late night when they were questioning how much they matter. You were the only person to sit by their side and remind them how amazing they are. Perhaps you are the one who put a smile on your younger sibling’s face after they were bullied at school. You were the one to make them forget all the nasty words and love themselves again. You are the one who taught so many their self-worth and showed them love no one else ever has.

So why can’t you do that for yourself?

You are so deserving of all the love in the world. You deserve love from your friends and family. You deserve love from strangers and acquaintances. Cause you are so amazing. And the one person who deserves your love the most is yourself. You are kind, you are funny, you are amazing, and you are one of a kind. If you weren’t you, so many people wouldn’t be able to flourish and live as themselves because of all the amazing memories and experiences you bring to their lives. And when you can finally learn to love yourself, every part of yourself, you will finally live your life to your full capacity.

And remember, some people won’t like this about you.

Some people will see your self love in a negative light, but know there is nothing wrong with loving yourself. Some people will make fun of you — learn to ignore them. Some people will just leave you, please let them. Your self love is never to be challenged. Those who are important in your life won’t look down on your new confidence, they will beam with pride. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing someone come into themselves and love who they are. We were all made unique and we should appreciate that about ourselves. It’s society and the rules that have been made that says you aren’t supposed to love yourself outwardly, you aren’t supposed to share your successes and be overly humble. Please don’t. Share your successes and joys with those that matter in your life, because they will do nothing but praise you because that’s called love. Those who don’t, forget them. Remember one thing:

“It is about being fearlessly and relentlessly true to yourself

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
