There is one question that I seem to stumble upon from different people all of the time and that question would be, "Why do you love the game of football?" Normally people would expect answers such as "the touchdowns" or the "big hits" on defense. Yes, while the hype of playing football is quite a life changer, most of those who merely spectate the game only see the long touchdowns, the big hits, the lights, the victories and much more that happens on a gameday; however, my love and passion for the game of football goes much deeper than that.
It starts in the early summer--while most are lounging in the pool, soaking up the sun on a beach vacation, or enjoying the breeze of the AC. My teammates and I's summer vacations are spent experiencing the gruesome heat radiating off the hot summer turf as we run endless sprints until our legs go numb or endure a hellish six round grind that coach Goodyear puts together for us in the weight room. But, championships are won through preparation, victories are acquired at the squat rack and in an empty stadium months before the lights ever cut on. No, I've never thoroughly enjoyed every workout I've been to throughout my football career, but then again no athlete ever has--just ask some of the big named players in the pros. However, just like the pros, I do it because I love the game.
I may not love the grit and fatigue of a practice or workout but I love getting the opportunity to strive after something I'm passionate for and taking advantage of God blessing me with the ability to play the glorious game of football. Similarly, he blessed me, and thousands of others, with the opportunity of four more years to further our education and our time to play in college. While most people only see football as a simple game, to me it's a lifestyle. It's more than just a game to me and my brothers, we treat it like business, like its our job. It's a passionate flame that burns down to the deepest parts of my soul and will never be extinguished. It's an opportunity and a blessing all in one. I don't play for publicity and to have my name plastered in the media. I simply play for my family, my teammates, and Jesus Christ.
