A Look at Week 13 of the NFL
NFL

With only 4 weeks remaining in the regular season, all eyes are on the teams who have playoff contention. Based off of last season's results, where some of these teams stand today is not what any of us would expect. Quite honestly, none of the games played this week were outrageously exciting, but division standings shifted around quite a bit. Here's a look at what you missed.

Dallas Cowboys (17) vs Minnesota Vikings (15)

I was genuinely looking forward to watching this game, most because the Dallas Cowboys have been one of the most discussed teams this season. Dak Prescott is an incredible quarterback for a rookie, and you can't deny that. The guy has led the team to an astonishing 11 game winning streak. If Dallas has any hope of doing well in the playoffs, they need to get their defense in check, which is what almost cost them this game against Minnesota (not to mention all of the missed calls that helped them out too). Shifting focus to the Minnesota Vikings, they lost their starting quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, in the preseason. They acquired Sam Bradford from Philadelphia through a trade. Bradford is a fairly average quarterback, but I've yet to see him do anything that is relatively impressive. Yes, the Vikings did start off the season undefeated until a loss to Philadelphia in Week 7. But that was due to an impressive defense that is now a bit less impressive. The defense is still ranked 3rd in the NFL in yards allowed per game (303.4) and ranked 4th in points allowed per game (17.4), yet the team has only one win in the past 6 weeks. With defensive weapons like Xavier Rhodes and Brian Robison, the team should have a much better record than they do now. If Mike Zimmer has any hope of his team heading into the playoffs, his main focus needs to be on his offense and keeping them consistent.

Kansas City Chiefs (29) vs Atlanta Falcons (28)

Of all of the games this week, this is one of the most impressive ones. Still not overly exciting, but the game had good and bad coming from both sides, making it a bit more tolerable to watch. And not to mention the fake punt from Kansas City that resulted in a 55-yard touchdown run from Albert Wilson, and the two-point conversion attempt by Atlanta that was picked off by Eric Berry and ran 99 yards down the field to score the 2 game-winning points (Probably the most exciting part of this game). Both of these teams have their faults and are extremely similar. You really don't know which team you're going to get on any given game day until the game starts. Will Matty Ice and his receivers put up big numbers? Will Kansas City's defense become an impenetrable wall? No one knows, and it still remains the biggest mystery to me as to why these two teams are so wishy-washy.

Baltimore Ravens (38) vs Miami Dolphins (6)

I wasn't overly shocked by the results of this game to be honest, unlike everyone else who watched this game apparently. Baltimore's defense has been greatly improving over the past few weeks, especially their front defensive line. The Ravens are currently 1st in the league in yards allowed per game (296.1) and in rushing yards allowed per game (73.8), and they most definitely have one of the best defenses not only in the AFC but in the entire league. This stellar performance by the Ravens ended the Dolphin's 6-game winning streak. Ryan Tannehill actually looked like a decent quarterback (I honestly never thought I'd say that), Jay Ajayi has shown his strength as a running back, and Miami's defense was surprisingly good throughout their 6-game win streak. Sadly, that's all come to an end thanks to Baltimore. They’ll have to push to win out the rest of their schedule if they want any hope of securing a Wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Chicago Bears (26) vs San Francisco 49ers (6)

This game is quite literally the blind leading the blind, and the wet, snowy conditions made this terrible game even worse than it should have been. Colin Kaepernick showed his true lack of ability under center and was benched over quarterback Blaine Gabbert. There isn't a whole lot you can learn from this game other than the fact that Colin Kaepernick had completed one of five passes for a total of 5 yards, and was also sacked 5 times. Matt Barkley, the backup quarterback for the injured Jay Cutler, wasn't much better than Kaepernick or Gabbert, but he managed to lead the Bears to a victory.

Cincinnati Bengals (32) vs Philadelphia Eagles (14)

I honestly cannot say I'm surprised here. Philadelphia has gone downhill since it's first loss, and it doesn't look like they're going to find the light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz was, in my opinion, the best QB prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft, and I felt like he would actually turn Philadelphia around. But some things never change. Cincinnati waited until week 13 of the season to begin playing well like they had last year, and at this point is almost mathematically impossible for them to make the playoffs, even as a Wildcard pick. Looks like Cincinnati’s bad luck with the playoffs will continue.

Green Bay Packers (21) vs Houston Texans (13)

Brock Osweiler, the backup quarterback for the Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos turned starting quarterback (and $72 million waste) for the Houston Texans just again proved his lack of ability to command his offense under center. He looked slightly better than he has in the past few weeks, but still mediocre at best. If Bill O'Brien was smart, he would have kept Brian Hoyer as his quarterback (Though he wasn’t much better than Osweiler). Aaron Rodgers and the Packers managed to play a somewhat proficient game and are still in contention for the playoffs, but it would take a miracle for them to actually get a spot. Their offense is on an upward climb but is a long way from what it should be.

Denver Broncos (20) vs Jacksonville Jaguars (10)

With Trevor Siemian injured, this was the time for rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch to shine, much like a wet match in a dark cave. Of all of the rookie quarterback prospects in the 2016 Draft, I had a good amount of faith in Lynch. His mobility was impressive, and I could see him growing into a good quarterback. I can now see that faith is short lived, as his performance on Sunday was absolutely atrocious. Jacksonville quarterback Blake Bortles isn't much better than the Denver rookie, and it amazes me how he still has a starting job. His attitude towards the team's performance is not going to help them progress in a positive direction, and neither will his lack of ability. The entire Jacksonville offense needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, and if Gus Bradley intends on keeping his job, he better do it soon. It won't help at all this season, though, as the Jaguars have already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

New England Patriots (26) vs Los Angeles Rams (10)

I don't think I need to go into much detail regarding this game. Tom Brady and the rest of Belichick's squad ran over the Rams. Brady is now the winningest quarterback in NFL history, LeGarrette Blount had another fantastic game, and no one is really shocked by any of this. Looking at the Los Angeles Rams, Jeff Fisher (who miraculously managed to get a two-year contract extension?) needs to get ahold of his team in the locker room, and perhaps think strongly about going back on that contract extension. Jared Goff, the 1st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, spent the first half of the season riding the bench, instead of learning how to face a pass rush and build up confidence. The kid has a solid arm, but until he learns how to calm down, he won't get anywhere in the league. Overall, this game was definitely the least interesting because we all knew the outcome before this whole thing even started.

Detroit Lions (28) vs New Orleans Saints (13)

Probably one of the most exciting games this past week, with the Detroit defense being the most surprising factor of all. The Saints have one of the best offenses in the league, and of all of the teams to stop them, it's the Detroit Lions. The Lions had 422 total yards against the Saints' 369. Brees was intercepted three times, once by Glover Quin, Tavon Wilson, and Miles Killebrew. Golden Tate's performance was exceptional, taking a 3rd-and-long situation and turning it into a 66-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter. This game is the most comfortable lead that the Lions have had all season, and I'm confident that Matthew Stafford and the rest of the Lions can finish out the next four games and hold on to a lead in their division.

Oakland Raiders (38) vs Buffalo Bills (24)

Who would have thought that the Oakland Raiders would be the number one seed in the AFC? Derek Carr, Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Latavius Murray, the list goes on. Jack Del Rio has several MVP-worthy candidates on his roster, and could possibly be running a Super Bowl-worthy team. Both the offense and defense of this team have stepped up tremendously, and they showed it on Sunday. This was a back and forth fight against the up-and-down Bills under Rex Ryan. The Bills have struggled with injuries throughout the season, but even fully healthy, they wouldn't have been able to stop Raider Nation. The Oakland Raiders are the best in the AFC, and they are damn exciting to watch too.

Arizona Cardinals (31) vs Washington Redskins (23)

This game was back and forth, and leave it to the Washington Redskins to do the exact opposite of what I thought they'd do. Although at this point, that's pretty typical of them. A cross-country trip for the Redskins is never going to lead to a good outcome (Hell, a home game for them probably won't lead to a good outcome either). The team played well, but the loss of key players is going to be the demise of this team for the rest of the season. And where on earth did the Cardinals come from? Nothing like typical Carson Palmer coming alive when it's too late in the season to make a difference. David Johnson, one of the best running backs in the league, put on an exceptional show on Sunday, helping lead Arizona to a victory. I'm surprised the poor showing under Bruce Arians, as the Cardinals were expected to be one of the league's best defenses and were supposed to be serious Super Bowl contenders... Whoops!

Pittsburgh Steelers (24) vs New York Giants (14)

Being a Steelers fan, I always love seeing my team win. I wasn't overly concerned with the offense, but our defense has been an emotional rollercoaster this year (at times, I've really wanted to stick pins in my eyes). Thankfully, what should be one of the league's best defenses is finally stepping up. The Steel Curtain is slowly beginning to reappear. Yes, Pittsburgh only won because the Giants are that bad (but they are somehow in contention for a Wildcard spot?), but a win is a win nonetheless. New York has a few solid offensive weapons, but the millions upon millions of dollars spent in the offseason to beef up their defense don't seem to be too worthwhile. NY's defense does not play like a multimillion dollar defense. And with a quarterback known for choking, I can't say I'd put my faith in the Giants all that often.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (28) vs San Diego Chargers (21)

Tampa Bay is possibly the biggest sleeper team in the NFC and is overlooked constantly because of the Atlanta Falcons. Their defense is has been stepping up over the last 4 games (which they've won), and have a fairly successful offense. Jameis Winston is becoming impressively well-rounded and develops more and more with each game. Tampa Bay's defense made Philip Rivers do what he does best-- retreat. Rivers played well throughout the game, but at this point in the season, it would be virtually impossible for them to go into the playoffs. Melvin Gordon continues to be San Diego's best player and is consistently one of the top 10 players in the league (Don't believe me? Go check the stats).

Seattle Seahawks (40) vs Carolina Panthers (7)

Of all the games of the day, this was the one that made me just want to turn off the tv (which I did). Seattle's unimpressive showing against Tampa Bay last week, in which they only managed to put up a measly 5 points. Carolina was neck and neck with the Raiders (who are arguably the best in the league), which proved that they had gotten their s*** together. Once this game started, I quickly realized I was so wrong. Interceptions within the first few plays made me realized that Carolina is still as atrocious as they have been all season, and Seattle just happened to have a fluke game against Tampa Bay. The most interesting thing surrounding this game is Head Coach Ron Rivera's decision to bench Cam Newton for the first series of play for wearing a turtleneck to the stadium and not a tie. I understand rules are rules, but that's a bit much. Newton being on the bench for the first series didn't change the outcome of that game though, Carolina was going to be steamrolled by Seattle's dominating defense.

Indianapolis Colts (41) vs New York Jets (10)

With Andrew Luck back from his concussion, the Colts are out to claim the AFC South title. With a solid offense and a healthy Luck, this team can actually play very well. The Jets on the other hand... I don't even know where to begin. Going from playoff contenders last season to being absolutely horrific this season just astounds me. Ryan Fitzpatrick has become the worst quarterback I've ever seen, and he's being benched for the last 4 games and will be replaced by Bryce Petty. Probably the best decision Todd Bowles has made all season and he should have made it much sooner. The point of this game is that the Jets are awful, and seem to have terrible luck with quarterbacks. The Colts are out for blood and plan to knock the Texans out of the number one spot in the AFC South to secure a place in the playoffs.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
