Dear Athletes,

I would like to start by thanking each and every one of you. Millions of girls (including myself) look up to you and your achievements every day. Whether it's someone famous like Alex Morgan from the women's soccer team or Adeline Grey from wrestling, you all have done an amazing job representing your countries and people across the nations praise you on your successes.

I am constantly mesmerized by the way each of you compete with grace and dignity. No matter what adversity you all have faced in your life, you have found a way to make yourselves into champions. Kathleen Baker, you were diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and yet still pushed yourself to train and now you have an Olympic medal in the 100 meter backstroke. You and many other athletes inspired the world, and not because of your illness or your challenges, but because you chose to focus on being the best that you possibly could be. Stories like Kathleen Baker's will help the next generation of athletes to believe in themselves and create their own legacies.

Even though there have been quite a few comments with sexist undertones, you all have found ways to take the high road and focus on the competition ahead of you. Whether it's referring to Corey Cogdell-Unrein not by her name, but as "the wife of a Bears lineman" or calling the gold medal match of judo "a catfight", we know that each of you are more focused on your accomplishments. Yes the media is insensitive. Yes there have been MANY sexist remarks. Yes there have been times where I am very surprised you all did not fight back, but you all decided to fight back in a different way. You chose to make your successes a bigger deal than your backlash and for that I am grateful. You all taught me not to focus on critique, but instead to focus on everything going well in your life.

To close this letter off, I want to say thank you again. Thank you to Yusra Mardini and to April Ross and to Simone Biles and to every other female Olympian who has competed at these Rio games. Thank you for inspiring the athlete within me and every other girl who has been watching. Whether it's a retired athlete like myself or one who is just beginning her career, you all have taught us to dream big and go after our dreams with perseverance. Without athletes like you, girls like me wouldn't have someone to look up to. It's hard to believe, but without people like you, the next generation of female athletes would have a hard time finding someone to look up to.

Sincerely,

The Next Generation of Olympic Athletes

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
