An Open Letter To My Sister

Growing up is hard but I wouldn't want to be figuring out this whole "life" thing with anyone other than you.

I know we don't always get along, I know we don't always see eye to eye. But there are so many things that I need you to know that sometimes I just don't have the time to say.

The first thing I want you to know is that I am always here for you. Even if I'm far away, incredibly busy, stressed out or mad. You are the person that I will always make time to help and talk to when you need me. You are a priority in my life. You are the one person that has been with me since birth and nothing will ever change that. We have a special bond that no one can ever change.

The second thing I want you to know is that I love you. I love you more than you could ever imagine. I will always, always cherish the memories that we have made throughout the years. I can't wait to make many, many more with you doing crazy and silly things. I cherish our Starbucks dates, our car rides to and from college, our lunch dates every Tuesday, our library dates three times a week, everything. You will be the person standing beside me on my wedding day and I'll be standing beside you on yours. We probably won't agree on anything about each other's weddings and we'll hate each others bridesmaid dresses, but we'll stand there and smile on each others special day because it'll make the other one happy.

The third thing I want you to know is that you're important to me. You're amazing, smart, beautiful in every way. I value you, your opinion, your advice, your honor and respect, your intelligence - everything about you. You're the first person that I go to when I need advice. You're the person that I run to when I'm happy or when I'm crying.

Even when I'm not with you, I'm still always going to be here for you. I'm a phone call, text, or FaceTime call away. Growing older and going our separate ways has given me a newly found appreciation for you. Sometimes there is nothing I want more in this world that a hug from my sister. I've realized that all the fights over clothes and other small fights we had as children have only made our sisterhood stronger. Growing up is hard but I wouldn't want to be figuring out this whole "life" thing with anyone other than you.

I'll leave you with one last thing. I love you with all of my heart. Please never forget that I love you. Never forget that you are always beautiful and intelligent, even if you feel like you aren't. When life requires us to go our separate ways for real, never forget that I'm here for you. You're the best sister that anyone could ever ask for.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
