A Letter To My Big Sister

To the best big sister,

You have been there since the beginning. You've been through it all with me. The day I was born, you held me in your arms and apparently promised to mom that you would be "the best big sister ever and take care of me forever." Forever is a long time but I do not doubt you. So far you have upheld your promise. From my first day of school to now, you've been there every step of the way. You have always been my biggest inspiration. You inspire me to be the best I can be. You inspire me to never be afraid to chase my dreams, and you inspire me to work hard and have fun while doing it.

I'm a frazzled mess most of the time but you have looked past that and have taught me that life isn't meant for worrying about the future, it's about living in the moment and loving every second of it. You have taught me so much without even realizing it. Your weird, unusual self has taught me that when any opportunity arises, take it without hesitation because anything can happen at any moment in time. You were there for me through the awkward brace face stages, training bras, and the first kiss. I have to admit the advice back then wasn't the best, but I did get something out of it. Without that advice, I would not be the woman I am today. You have shaped me and I am extremely grateful for that. I want to thank you for being there through the thick and thin.

Thank you for being your funny, kind, amazing self and making me smile every day. Thank you for making every moment with you a memorable one. Thank you for allowing me to look up to you and copy your every move (even when it annoyed you). Thank you for doing my hair and picking out my clothes for those very important 6th grade dances. Thank you for letting me hang out with you and your friends, even though you secretly didn't want me there. Thank you for being you. A charismatic, loving, daring, adventuress, one of a kind, and perfect human being. I'm saying thank you because there's no one better than you who could fulfill the duty of being my big sister. I love you.
